Bodrum
Otogar The trip from Rhodes to Bodrum was a little disconcerting as although I had the ferry part sorted I only had a notional idea of the bus for the second leg. After managing to scam a tourist map of Mamaris the Otogar (bus depot) appeared to be quite close to the port - turned out to be about 1km; in the heat felt like 2. Luckily no steps and reasonably flat. We came across an interesting Otogar sign suggesting we weren't alone in making this trip. A 3 hour trip on a packed shuttle bus up and down some considerable mountains was very scenic and got us to Bodrum and our next stay OK. The Turkish main roads appear to be very good from what we have seen so far.
Our Bodrum accommodation is a little more resort style - pool and half board (breckie & dinner) so we don't have as many decisions to make. Always a little off-putting at 1st understanding and adapting to each new environment - but to date has worked out fine.
Spent half a day at Bodrum Castle which houses a world renoun archeological museum.
Next day, tourist map in hand we
Bodrum
Bodrum castle set out on a self guided walking tour of Bodrum to tick off the main listed landmarks. Old theatre ruins, Maussoleam (site of one of the 7 wonders of the anicent world reduced to a pile of scattered rocks) where an audio visual in English was most heplful in shedding some light on what we were looking at. Other landmarks included the Myndos fortress gate, headland windmills along with many domed water cisterns. Came across only one other couple with the same map in hand (member of the Farkari tribe) trudging along in the heat; I guess we had to do something to work off all those Turkish delights.
If communications in Greece was a little difficult it has kicked up a notch in Turkey - getting the pronunciation somewhere close is not easy. Booked forward bus journey to Kusadasi - well I think I have.
