11th May 2012 is certainly a day il remember forever. After a non eventful flight I touched down in Australia, the country ive heard so much about and waited so long to see! It was quite overwhelming to find myself at the other side of the world, so far away from home with only one pink rucksack to my name. I think I realised that day that I really was away for a long time, and the proper adventure was just beginning!! Now as many of you know there was a certain boy waiting to surprise me at the airport which was pretty special and certainly made the intitial shock much easier to bear.
The first week was spent in Bondi Beach, made famous by the tv series about the buff lifeguards 'Bondi Rescue' and also where a lot of people congregate at Christmas. It is beautiful down there on the beach, the surfers love the huge swells and it has that arty, coffee house atmosphere hanging in the air. Weather, did u say?!!! Absolutely freezing!!!! Windy, 15 degrees and cold 😞 safe to say the summer wardrobe I packed for Thailand was not going to cover it. I remember
texting mum to say id got there safe, her response ' I bet its lovely and sunny and warm!' Sunny yes but not warm, that was something I never expected in Australia. It is winter they keep reminding me. Compared to scottish winter I suppose it really aint bad.
Once Pete left for home me and Lou headed up the coast to Newport to stay with some of her family for the weekend. It was gorgeous up there, a real gem on the coast. The area is known as the Northern Beaches and has some of the best beaches around. Now as my long suffering family know, I LOVE Home and Away and only 20minutes from Janie's house is Palm Beach - home to that famous tv series. You can imagine the excitement as I wriggled my toes in the sand and got my picture taken outside 'Alf's Surfclub' deeeeelighted!!! We also took a trip to Manly which is a picture perfect seaside town and drank some wine at the Newport Arms overlooking the beautiful marina. Following that delight we took ourselves back to the city where we checked into WakeUp hostel for a week. Here I partied, made
lots of new friends and tried to get my life sorted for starting work! Its weird when you leave your whole life behind because suddenly you find yourself trying to figure out bank accounts, medicare cards, tax file numbers, work,a place to stay etc which takes ages at home but you are trying to do it asap. Work for me begins on Tues night for 4 nights!! Excited 😊 The only thing left to do is find an apartment for a few months, watch this space.......
Now saving the best bit till last! Sightseeing 😊 Sydney is a pretty cool city. I love the old meets new feel about it and all the arty things to see. Theres the obvious, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House - amazing in real life, hard to believe you are standing beside these huge famous structures. I saw them on a really nice sunny day which made it even better. Darling harbour is modern and chic, you feel pretty cool sitting down there sipping a pint. (thats another thing, Ive become a big beer drinker, everything else is too expensive!) The Rocks is the old part of town, very picturesque and very
expensive lol. Even though I have never been to New York I like to describe Sydney as a mix between London and New York. As you walk around downtown Sydney the skyscrapers tower above you and you feel like a small ant. The hussle and bussle on the trains (which are underground) remind me of London, Sydneysiders can be pretty rude as well which is also a bit like London lol. When the British left Australia they certainly left there mark on Sydney, theres a Hyde Park, Kings Cross, George Street etc etc. We were also lucky enough to be here when Sydney's Vivid light festival was on. Basically it is where the whole of Circular Quay and the famous landmarks are lit up in a spectacular light show. It was pretty cool! I shall end my ramblings here for now, enjoy the photos and il get an update next week when the real hard work begins! Miss you all xxxxx

What a lovely surprise on a day that started badly!!!!
Hi Thats lovely pictures to cheer me up. Looks great and it certainly does not look cold! Rach's old banger wouldn't go with me today and my car is stuck behind her so had to walk but it is a fine enough day. You didn't put the final leg of Thailand on your blog so I havn't seen the photos of Koi Sumai (not sure how to spell it!) Great to see the Ozzy pics though. Look forward to speaking to you either tomorrow or Sunday (Dad not golfing now so it is up to you!)
