Next stop was Chiang Mai. From Bangkok we got the sleeper train overnight for 13hours up north and arrived in cultural Chiang Mai. It's a much calmer, prettier part of the country. We stayed in a cute wee guesthouse in a lovely part of town, the local shop opened at 5am+there was always people wandering around!!

Following a day of reacclimatising+getting used to the new surroundings we got some trips organised. I really wanted to see the elephants and also turn my hand to some Thai cooking! So after a little haggling, a tour day trip from 8am-6pm was in the bag,as well as organising our own day at Baan Thai cooking school 😊

Day 1- Woke early to take on the amazing Thailand tour day. It began with a trip to a butterfly/orchid farm. Here they breed butterflys as well as growing rows and rows of the most gorgeous orchids. Stepping into a little oasis of calm the picture perfect farm was the ideal start. Lovely butterflies(hard to photograph!) and gorgeous orchids made for a great start. From here we were taken to an elephant camp, there was a wee show and you got to see them with there mahouts(trainers). I wasnt sure how I felt about them performing,it seemed a little bit cruel however they looked healthy, happy+well looked after so it's a tricky one. Following this we visited a long neck tribe which was fastinating+had some lunch before the afternoon.

After lunch was the best bit of the day,a ride through the gorgeous jungle on an elephant! Nicknamed Bessie, our elephant was a wee bugger! She kept stopping and swinging her trunk back for bananas. She was also holding up proceedings as no one could get past her lol. In the end I took to throwing the bananas in front of her and then she soon took off. Amazing :D The day ended with some white water+bamboo rafting down the picturesque river. Perfect.

Day 2- Spent the day at Baan Thai cooking school learning to prepare and cook Thai goodies! Amongst mine were red curry and spring rolls!!! The whole day was great, met some lovely people, got to go to an amazing market and pick fresh produce then cook+eat it!!! Can't beat that 😊 would highly recommend to anyone. X
