Moscadella Hotel
I HIGHLY recommend this place if you want to chill out, have really great food and tour around and drink wine. The owner and staff are fantastic! Tuscany . . . time to drive!
We picked up a rental car in Rome and headed out to Tuscany. I haven't driven a stick shift in years, but with exception of the two hours of traffic getting out of Rome, it was so much fun. It was just like being back in high school in my Scirocco, the mean black racing machine (well, that's what I tought of it at the time). We got in and I immediatly stalled. Nice! Val reminded me that when you park a stick you leave it in gear . . . riiight.
A girl in Positano gave us a name of a hotel outside of Trequanda called Moscadello. It was awesome. I highly recommend it especially if you're with your significant other (don't worry, Val and I decided to get a room with ajoining bedrooms so we didn't spoon together). But Tuscany itself is just so romantic and peaceful. The rolling hills, the castles, wineries and the quiet lifestyle . . . I could stay there forever. Oh, and the food of course.
We went to Montalcino, home of Brunello wine - yummy!, Saint Quirico d'Orcia, a beautiful old town, and even

Hotel Moscadella - dining area. an old monestary where there are still monks living. They pray seven times a day all in Gregorian chant. We stayed for one of the services which was quite an experience. In Montalcino, we went to the Spatti Fortessa and inside they had an amazing photo exhibit of this Tuscan photographer. The photos were beautiful as were the quotes that were written next to the photographs. Here's one of my favorites:
"A true voyage of discovery does not involve looking for new lands, but rather looking with new eyes." - Voltaire
Food: Specialties of this area - the Florentine steak - a huge t-bone, enough to feed an army, pecirino cheese, Pici pasta - hand rolled spagetti (val's favorite), and artichoke ravioli (my favorite).
Our last day we went to Montalpuciano for lunch and a quick walk around. By day three we had the driving thing down enough where we were only getting lost about every 15 minutes rather than every 5. Valerie's trip had come to an end and it was off to the train station for her and back to flying (and driving) solo for me.
Oh, and as for the allergies, thank
god I brought allergy pills!
