Some village kids trying to keep cool
Well the end of our laos adventure was one of the coolest things I have ever done. Tenneal and I joined forces with Adam from South Africa for our last Laos adventure. We heard about a experience like no other - The Gibbon experience. This is 3 days of living in treehouses that are all attached through ziplines.

So we needed money for the trip and it just so happened that the whole town (Huay Xai) didn't have international banking for foreigners. So, to get cash, one of us had to take a 3 min boat ride to thailand, get stamped and take out money, return to lao and re-enter. What a pain. It was kind of neat to see Thailand right across the river😊

So we drove through the wilderness for about 2ish hours to get the the village areas where we would indulge in a crappy (sorry folks, Im no hiker) 2 hour uphill hike to the "kitchen" hut where they give you your harness for the next 2 days. The harnesses are similar to the same gear you would wear when rockclimbing, with a roller hooked on. Place the roller on the cable and you're off

Adam and I after a crappy..er...I mean great 2 hour uphill hike to our ziplines:)
riding through the jungle. And so, thats what we did 😊 Some of the ziplines are like 100 m high. Its super fun/scary.

There are 4 treehouses so far. They are quite spread out, but pretty easy to get to all of them when you factor in the ziplines. All of them have toilets, sinks and showers, that work from springwater. Showering outside is fantastic. A little strange, but you are right there with nature😊 There is a long rope in all the houses that go to the bottom for them to tie our meals to. When you get hungry, just reel in the food. Mmmmm mmmm.

Adam, T and I had our own treehouse (TH2) and had an awesome view of the forrest. The crazy jungle sounds were insanely neat. It was a little hard to sleep through but it was so worth it. I would say there was a group of maybe 15 of us all spread out throughout the jungle in our treehouses. Everyone would visit each other in the houses for coffee or snacks. Kind of cool to tell someone to meet you at your treehouse at 5! Each morning we would get up

at 6 to hear the Gibbons. They sing really neat eerie songs early in the morning, but only for 5-10 minutes around 6am. Then they disappear for the rest of the day. Its not common to spot them, but our last morning we saw one swinging from tree to tree in the distance. It was really neat and we were really lucky. No one else saw them 😊

For some info on the project check out their website...http://www.gibbonexp.org

So in short this was awesome. We spent our 3 days hiking about and ziplining through the forrest, which never gets old. It was fantastic!

Thats all I have. I now invite you to check out my colourful display of images. Enjoy!

So Jealous!!
Hey Avril, I am so glad that you got to check this out. I heard about it while I was in Thailand and was so tempted to leave the beach to check it out. The beach won out though. I am back in Regina for a few weeks..yeah?? and then off to Europe for a few months. We will have to get together in Regina and overload Lish with all our photos! Too bad we can't introduce her to Tiger Beer!

Ha Ha I've already had Tiger Beer! I bet you want to know how but I will never share my secret...you can buy it in Ontario. Avril, the sun is finally shining in Regina and I'm trying to match up to your tan, I hope there is time before you get home. Miss you A-dawg and see you soon, right? Give the monkeys a bum pat for me.
