6th November
Well what a grand day! Long, very windy road to Sintra, great fun on the bike and no problems parking! I am sure this place must be heaving in the summer, but on a blustery November day it was delightful.
We visited the Moorish castle which had loads of steps and great views of Sintra and the palace at Pena. We then went on to the palace Quinta da Regaleira. The palace itself was quite small but it is very elaborate and looks like something out of a fairy tale. The gardens are amazing with fountains, grottoes and statues, a waterfall and secret underground passages leading from inside a massive well. I absolutely loved it and thoroughly enjoyed the gardens even though there were only a few flowers in bloom!
There were loads of other palaces to visit but everything was shutting at five o'clock and by that time we were both tired, so we headed back to Myrtle and a well earned bottle of wine.
