Colourful Dwellings
Aren't these colourful? This is on the way to the antique market. *We have had no internet service in our apartment for a few days. I have not published because of it. I am at the school using the connection there, today on November 8th.
Now I know how Justin Bieber feels. LOL. Well, lol, sort of. My face was SO sore from smiling all evening, this Hallowe'en night! Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, it was awesome! Me and the other costumed teachers starred in literally hundreds of pictures this evening. Rich, Diane, Joyce and I and a convoy of the marketing staff from Tianjiao jumped into the school's van after our evening teaching and strolled the shopping street in Xiamen in our Hallowe'en gear. Rich did say today at lunch after our visit to the antiques market that I'm a diva (pffffft! Whatever!! LMAO) I loved being a Chinese Angel, object of the curious and somewhat incredulous Chinese, for whom Hallowe'en is still as foreign as I am! And you know me, seeing as I am so shy and retiring I smiled and waved, stopped and posed for many, many pictures and enjoyed every second of the adventure in adoration! As we strolled down the avenue we took in the
Cow Sign? LOL
Not watch your head, but your herd, Cowpoke! LMAO! Make sure your herd doesn't get away on ya, know, eh? gasps, stares, and cries of "pee-ow lee-oooo" which means beautiful, in Chinese. And I have not spelled that right at ALL! LOL And one lady was so very curious about my pink 'fro she invaded my personal space to first gently squeeze the pink wig all over and then peek under the it to see if I had hair of my own! LOL She was not disappointed to see my blonde hair, threw her head back and laughed like the crazy lady that she was and then had her husband snap a picture with me, the Lao Siu (pronounced laow shoe and it means teacher) from Janada (Canada)! LOL There were a few constumed Chinese and we smiled and wished each other a mutually happy Hallowe'en and kept on wowing the crowds which frantically produced cameras from who knows where! I must say that everyone was very polite and said thank you for taking our pictures. We had such a good time!
I was supposed to be in a studio recording a demo on Monday, October 31st, for a Chinese company but the meeting was rescheduled for tomorrow so we went off on an adventure during the day instead. The
Antiques Market
Shot of some of the wares for sale....everything is laid on out the floor and arranged mostly neatly. antiques market is not a place we've been to before. We were 4--Rich, Diane, Joyce et moi. We boarded a bus and then walked for quite a ways into a quiet and subdued neighborhood. What an amazing place. All manner of things were on display--coins, and antiques and precious stones--orbs and geodes, statues and swords and, jade, oh, so much jade and other precious stones, beads and jewels! The whole smell of the market place was of musty and ancient things. There was LOT of dust and also a lot of junk. Rich was on the hunt for posters, antique Chinese posters. I was tempted by the beautiful stone orbs, but honestly, the thought of what it might cost me to ship them home kept me at bay! LOL In the end, I purchased a couple of amazing kitchen knives, that Rich bargained for me for--he got 2 for 165 Yuan or about $27.50ish Cdn--and 2 beautiful posters and that was it! We browsed and poked and examined and just strolled leisurely through the merchandise.....hounded by one merchant desperately wanting us to buy. This particular gentleman was very persistent! The market was mostly deserted except for us 4 Canadians. We
ended our excursion by having a wonderful lunch at the restaurant we found earlier in our stay--numbing green beans, cabbage, rice, and this yummy chicken and mushroom dish.
