Spoiled, definitely spoiled. There is no way I am going to appreciate the sunsets back home quite as much as I did on the island of Santorini. It is hard to compete with a tiny island known for its white buildings with blue rooftops and the sunsets that grace every tourist and local.

Forrest Gumps quote "...you never know what you're going to get" fits perfectly for Santorini's sunsets. The five nights I spent on the island, I saw an amazing spectrum of colours, blends and highlights spread across the sky in a matter of moments. Not only did the sun disappear behind the hoizon quite literally in a span of 10 seconds, but the sky would light up and change colours just as quickly. Quite breathe taking.

I spent my days in Santorini with Alex, a girl from Indiana I met in Rome. We knew we would be travelling in the same direction and Santorini ended up being our shared destination. We rented 4x4's and explored most of the island, which included a black beach in Parissa, a red beach accented with red cliffs just down the coast, Oia (white buildings/blue roof tops, famous sunsets) and Fira, the main city.

I am definitely well rested to take on the next leg of my trip, which is starting with the Cooney wedding in Croatia. In fact, I am currently waiting to take a night ferry from Bari, Italy to Dubrovnik, Croatia. I arrived in Bari yesterday morning and had planned to take a ferry last night, a ferry I was told numerous times would depart around 10pm. Around 8, I found out that no such ferry existed. Exhausted, hot and bored from waiting around at port all day, I was quite peeved. I quickly found a run down hostel, dropped my bags off and went for a walk to blow off steam. I found a caged turf soccer field with a bunch of locals playing 4 on 4. I asked to join. They let me. Besides the non stop Italian bickering and hand gestures I could not understand, I had a great time for an hour or so. Walked through the main town squares on my way back to the hostel where I got to breath in true, authentic Italian culture - none of which I felt I had experience in Rome or Florence.

A crappy stop over turned into a great time. Seems to be the theme of this trip...it is what you make of it.

On to the next.
