Liverpool...the focus of this city appears to revolve around three core things. 1. Football. 2. It's musical heritage. 3. It's Maritime history.
Let's deal with the football first; football players are gods and shops devoted to the selling of sports gear are aplenty, however, the Official Liverpool Football Shop was the busiest place in town. These players and such provide the role models for the guys, and for the girls it's their WAGS, (wives and girlfriends). If you have ever watched the TV programme 'footballers wife's then you will have some idea of the 'look' they are trying to attain. As I don't know any of e real footballers or their wags, I could not be sure if I was seeing the real thing on the street or just the wannabes, but they certainly make an impression with their sky-high shoes, tight pants or short skirts, teased long hair and makeup! It was very entertaining to watch! At least in the main new shopping area of Liverpool...Liverpool One, they have refrained from having cobbled streets so at least the girls ankles are safe. I don't think I have seen so many people in Europe and the Uk in casts, on crutches
or with support boots etc on. I'm sure it is because of the unevenness of the streets and footpaths. They are very pretty to look at but dangerous for the unwary! Highlights in Liverpool were visiting the Cavern Club, where the Beatles first played and there are many shops and museums dedicated to their memory, and visiting the docks and the maritime museum. The docks must have been a pretty deadly looking place before it was revamped. All in all, well worth a visit. We got up early to catch the ferry over the Dublin. We had plenty of time as the ferry was delayed 2 hours. Trust the Queen to visit Dublin on the day we were going over! So there was increased security and a bit of a hold-up getting through the lock but it was a smooth sailing and we only arrived half an hour later that the expected time. 8 hours on a boat is a much more pleasant way to pass the time than on an Aeroplane. At least you can get up and walk around, stretch out on couches, book a cabin if you want, watch DVDs and they feed you buffet breakfasts and
dinners. Perfect. Because the Queen was in town, most of the city centre of Dublin is closed off to traffic and a bit of a nightmare, so we have headed north today, through Belfast...I have to say it was unimpressive...and through countywide that looks very similar to that in NZ and up to Bushmills, which is close to the giants causeway and has an old whisky distillery. We will explore both of these options tomorrow. We will look in on Dublin when we return to catch the ferry back to Liverpool. So for the rest if today we are catching up on the washing and enjoying the sunshine in-between the showers.

Hey guys, I thought of you last night as I watched the news with the Queen cruising the empty streets of Dublin. She was probably enjoying the ride for a change and glad her arms were getting a rest from waving!!! It's the big build up to the annual Hangi lunch at kindergarten. We're having it on a Friday this year. More time in the arvo to enjoy the delicious kai. Can't wait. We've also built the whare inside this time, using a gazebo frame. It's looking pretty darn impressive if I say so myself. Might have to put a pic up on facebook. G.
