Its been awhile since our last 'Seoul' entry, and this may be the last. The family Payne/Pearn will be returning from Thailand in a few days which means I lose this laptop computer (as it'll be sent home with Cindy and Daryl). Kinda sad for me. Being on my own here in Seoul, I've become quite attached to this machine. It’s my lifeline to the world. Actually, it's kinda sad how many hours have been spent in frnt of this thing. Lately, I have been reading blogs of travelers in Southeast Asia for information (and inspiration), organizing Visas, checking the weather of various countries (including home), and watching Oilers hockey LIVE.
By the way, I attribute the success of the Oilers to my being here. It worked for the Eskimos…and it’s going to work for the Oil. Same reason you had the Tropical winter. Damn.

Kristy and I will leave Seoul in the morning on June 1 for Hanoi, Vietnam. From there….who knows. But we’ll continue updating the blog.

Kristy would have been better at putting this entry together, as it is based around her family’s visit. Unfortunately she is busy having tailored suits made for her

Family outing in Seoul
while she gets pedicures on the beach…so I’ll try my best to share her pics and experiences.

First set of pics were from various sights around Seoul with Cindy and Daryl. We had a busy week here, filled with temples, market shopping, Han River Cruise, shopping, Korean restaurants and of course shopping. I think they definitely earned the right to relax on a beach by the time their stay in Seoul was over.

Next set of pics are from our weekend outing, or M.T. (Membership Training…..the Koreans actually use the English letters “M.T.” to describe this version of camping) in Gangcheon…approx. 80km, and close to 4 hours drive out of town. Not an exaggeration. It was great to leave Seoul, as it was the first time Kristy and I have ventured out of town since the dull browns and greys of winter had disappeared, to be replaced by a lush, green countryside. The low mountains surrounding the area were gorgeous.
Jun was super nice to have organized this 'U.N.' trip for 7 foreigners (us with Dave, Emily and their friend Bal....sp??) and 6 Koreans. Usually M.T. is for office staff, university students and various clubs (as I’m sure

These beautiful red flowers were everywhere around the city during April.
you would imagine) where the group bonds as they party together…then sleep together (one big room, with mats to sleep on the heated floor).
We arrived and enjoyed a B.B.Q. of Samgyopsol (pork….like thick fatty bacon), various greens, Kimchee and of course….SOJU. My new nemesis.
We then had a campfire where Daryl and I entertained ourselves (and probably confused the Koreans) by playing the guitar and bongos (the water cooler actually worked quite well). Everytime the beer ran out…. someone would wip out a cellphone…and minutes later a dude on a motorbike would show up with more black plastic bags filled with beer. I wish you could do that in Jasper. Of course that spelled danger for Daryl and I. The next day I had the worst hangover of my entire life (and as most know, that spans a long and sordid history of drinking). As Danny would say, Happy Grad 2006!!

The group (minus Daryl and I) then headed out to see a waterfall. I hear it was nice. And watery.
Later we all drove to the town of Chuncheon for lunch, as they are famous for their Dakgalbi (spicy chicken stir fry). I hear that was nice too.

Next pics are from the river cruise that Kristy, Daryl and Cindy took.

Lastly...a few sports highlights. Thank you Marc for the shirt. I'll make sure there is at least 10 tiny new Oiler fans in the far East.

The memory
of Green Monster. ^^ This is the first time to add a comment here on your Blog. I was really happy to be with you to Gangchon. And your memory of SOJU reminds me of my first impression of soju.
