Deciding not to bother with seeing Siena we headed off again in search of those rolling Tuscany hills we wanted so much to see, well not more than 15kms out of Siena we found them. The weather had turned a little with a cool 8 degrees and a stiff cold wind but that did not for one moment detract from the beauty of Tuscany, it really is a special part of Italy and to be frank the best we had seen so far. Slowly driving down narrow lanes and just soaking up the beauty was just great. Winding our way to a little old town called Cartona, reputed be over 3000 years old we found a typical hilltop village that was difficult to get to but worth the effort. Finally scoring a car park just by the gates to the village we wandered through the alleys and lanes for a few hours and soaked up the ancient history. As with most places they claim to be this or that and often there is little of nothing back this up, so I remain the eternal skeptic and wonder still at the history and reasons why these villages were really built in such difficult terrain and locations. Having had enough of Cartona we headed off to find a place by the lake to stop for the night. We scored!!!! Finally in Italy a spot by the lake and a beauty it was with lovely flat land, water views and trees aplenty. For all of you who are looking for a good spot, the place is N 43° 90780 East 012 ° 38449 with room for up to 20 or so camping cars by the yacht club in Castiglione del Lago.
