SWANKY
Our room at the red sun hotel We have been in Vietnam since the 30th and I am loving every minute of it. I have been laughed at everytime I ask for chopsticks, but these people will not break me. I know, no matter how tough it gets I cannot succumb to the fork. Those days are over and will be long forgotten - well, until August anyways. I will be the chopstick master.
We are staying at a very nice little (only 9 rooms) hotel in District 1 which is also reffered to as "backpackers heaven". Our hotel costs us 7 USD a night and it is clean, air conditioned and comes with satallite TV and a fridge. We also get free brekkie every morning. The people here are extremely friendly. They offer to book us tours, give us advise on how much things cost and let us know when we got ripped off 😊. But, saying that, one Canadian dollar is worth 14,000 dong, so being ripped off is paying an extra 50 cents or so. Its still not so bad. The currency is a little harder to figure out since it the denominations are so high but since I am a math wiz it
Someone call the fashion police!
Arrest these girls for looking so damn good! should be no problem right?
On to the city...
The traffic is insane kaos, which seems to work somehow. There are motorbikes, scooters, petal bikes, cars and trucks navigating throughout the city with very few traffic lights. Crossing the street is a very scary experience. You don't wait for traffic lights, you just walk slowly across the street and the traffic drives around you. This is the point where I force myself to think happy thoughts, like fluffy pink bunnies giving me money. I close my eyes a lot 😊
Saigon has a constant pulsating colorful aliveness beating through its streets day and night. There is a lot going on but it doesn't seem hectic or the least bit hurried. The people are extremely hard working. Surprisingly enough they are always smiling. There is a genuine happiness that flows through the streets, whether they are selling local fruit stacked high in the market, or riding a petal bike armed with cotton candy. We have even seen dried jellyfish up for grabs. Oh and I can't forget the snake wine. Just your average wine bottle with a snake and usually a scorpion amidst the liquer. I might just
Blessing our family and home town
Ten and I sticking incense in the sand to bless you lucky people :) have to get a bottle of this. Apperently its good for sore backs. Hmmmm....
We have met a very nice man and hired him to take us around Saigon like a local...on a motorbike. Its a little scary at first, but he is a very safe driver and we felt safe the entire time. We saw a lot of temples and visited the war memorial museum, a chilling reality check for Tenneal and I. There are absolutely heartbreaking images that will haunt me for a long time. Its was very intense, but Im glad I got to see what the Vietemese people went through and I have gained a little more inderstanding of the people.
Loving Vietnam!
Oh and I forgot to mention that the coffee here is amazing. They serve it with sweetened condenced milk. This tastes amazing. I have started a bad habit.....Mmmmmm coffee........😊
