frist of many drinking sessions
We had just stepped off the damn bus but couldn't say no to cheap beer, from left welsh guys,Osian, asian guy?,Barry, me doh,Ben and Owain! They all look terrible in skirts! After meeting the Welsh guys (previous blog) they told us that they were going down to San Diego which is where we headed so we could meet up have a few nights out. After a rather strange train journey in which there was no food on the train and not enough seats we arrived in San Diego with no idea where the hostel was that the guys from wales had recommended called the Banana Bungalow (strange name but it was a yellow hostel). After a tram journey and a bus journey we managed to stumble upon it by accident by this time gone 9pm at night and we had been traveling all day and were pretty damn tired. As soon as we get there Barry walks over wearing a dress so me and Kim both start to wander what type of hostel we were staying at (Thought id seen enough ladyboys round Thailand not to shock me)! Turns out that it was fancy dress night which was a reliff! Even though we were tired we ended up joining in with everyone drinking, keg party $5 as much as you want to drink, who would pass on that even though alot of
Idan you drunk
impressing everyone with his talent for drinking a litre of Vodka! American beer tastes like water (though its pretty strong). We all ended up down a club in which ive never seen as many goodlooking girls (all them beach babes) so we had a good night!
Our plan origionaly was to see some of San Diego however it didnt work out to well the Hostel was geared up mainly for parties and drinking which we felt obliged to join in with. The next night we ended up the same way playing drinking games out the front of the hostel overlooking the beach. The view from the hostel was great, right on the beach the guys spent many hours admiring the young ladies on the beach (not perving of course)and laughing at the wierd people who passed us(plenty of them in the states if you hadn't gathered by now). Everyday at the same time an old man in his 60's would rollerskate past us while listening to opera music and performing some wierd ballet dance, also there was a strange woman who sat on the sea wall talking to herself all day.... Most Americans however are friendly and always interested in where your from and they will even buy you drinks
Foot n Mouth
Osian demonstrating that he wasn't drunk becuase he could put his foot in his mouth. Or was he just showing off..... in bars, result!
(In the states you are expected to tip a dollar everytime you buy a drink, its shocking for every 3-5 beers you buy you have spent the price of one on tips!!)
Americans really take partying down the beach very seriously, they bring BBQ's, kegs, wooden decking and all manner of games to keep them occupied while they slowly drink, Brits on the other hand are far to lazy for all that we just opened our crates of beer and lazed around. Americans also play a game where you have to throw horse shoes round a pole, we couldn't understand how anyone could find this interesting but it seemed to be their favourite beach game (everyone to there own), Owain and I did attempt a game of football but were far to tipsy to kick the ball properly! Kim however did make an attempt at surfing which didn't turn out to well, she has very saw knees know.... :-s
During the weekend we didn't have a lot to do (we should have been exploring the city) but discovered that it was godfather weekend on TV so most of the days was spent watching the
Beach louts
Doing what we did best, nothing.... well we did have a few drinks too godfather films and drinking (once more) around the TV! On Saturday we also ate one of the best meals since we have been away. There was an English woman working at the hostel and she cooked a roast dinner for us which was nearly but obviously not quite as good as my mums ;-).
So After a busy weekend of doing little but drinking far to much on monday we all decided to go and watch our first baseball game the San Diego 'Padres' Vs Arizona 'Diamondbacks'. We were not sure what to expect however it soon turned out to be quite a boring affair! No one got a home run and the players took breaks every 5 minutes for no reason at all only for the team mascot to run around for 30 seconds before the players came back on the field to continue miss hitting the ball! After what seemed several hours the game was finally over (I think) and we all left. We did have a laugh however and were pretty much the loudest spectators in the stand. On our way from the game we almost all got done by the police for J-walking (when you
Sunset on the beach
So many damn pictures of sun sets and sun rises I hardly remember any! Kims getting good with the camera, though if you ask me its boring! dont cross at crossings) but luckily used the 'were foreign' card which worked well enough, will use that more in future!
Even though we didn't actualy do that much while in San diego we met some cool people and had many good nights. It was one of the best times we have had while traveling, was sad to say goodbye to all the lads but ill catch you guys back in Wales! Next stop Las Vegas!
