Our flight from NZ to Fiji was in the day which made a refreshing change of not having to hang around for a night flight. There was not any time difference coming from NZ to Fiji so we are still 13 hours ahead of the UK. Arriving in Fiji we headed to the travel agent and booked a weeks stay on an island and our last week back on the mainland. We stayed in Nadi that night and wondered into the main town, as it was sunday not much was open and there was nothing special to see. The next day we were ready to go on a small boat to the island Malolo at Walu beach resort. However in the morning we were due to be picked up at 9 and catch the boat at ten, we did not get picked up till 5 to ten and we arrived at the beach where the boat comes we waited for another hour till we left. This is what is known as Fiji time, which in other words this means things will get done when i am ready!!
Upon arrival to the island we had a welcome song, which ended in
a big BULA which means hello. After a few days we soon became accustomed to saying Bula at every opportunity with a big smile. One of the guys said the more you say it the longer you live. Our days were spent laying in the sun, swimming and eating as we had three inclusive meals a day. However we did manage to exercise with all the food and went out on canoes. On our first go we headed to a rock in the distance and circled the bay. On our second go we went around the headland, to see if we could make it the whole way round but it was too big. On another day we had a go at snorkeling, the coral in Fiji is not as good as OZ because people used dynamite to stun and catch fish and as a result damages the coral. Despite this we saw more fish than we would have thought and a few new types we had not seen before. We did stay in the water too long though as Andy saw a jelly fish and thought we best get out.
Nearing the end of the week we became ill
(tummy troubles) and were soon glad when this was over. Our first week in fiji had gone pretty fast and we were soon boarding the boat back to the mainland. On the way back we had some other island stop offs so we were able to see other islands briefly. The hotel we are staying in our last week has a pool so we are doing a bit of sunbathing in the morning and some reading in the afternoon when it rains. It rains quite frequently but only for an hour or so but its nice as the air gets cooler as a result. We now have FOUR days left and are looking forward to returning home before Christmas!!!
see you all soon x x x x
