The Travellers
Happy and relaxed at the U2 concert, 16 days before departure Our South American Adventure
I have no idea what this blog will be like - if it will be an analysis of food/hostels/places or a general "Hello we're still alive"... to be confirmed I guess... One thing I do know is that my spelling is appalling... so be patient 😊
In this first blog I thought I'd upload a few photos and show you what David and I have been up to over the last year - New Zealand, Brisbane, Sydney, Sky Diving, U2 concert... the fun never stopped! We met in June and have had the most wonderful 6 months getting to know each other and living a very fun busy life.
The Trip We've planned nearly 3 months worth of travel across 6 countries. We've heard terrifying stories of bag slashing, 'mustard' trick (someone sprays you then another offers to help clean you up and steals everything that's not attached to you!) and 3 hour bus trips taking 18 hours... but that's travelling for you and if you don't have a relaxed attitude to begin with, people/places/cultures will really get on your nerves... surprisingly the only time I actually 'lost it' while travelling in China

At a look out admiring the beautiful view of Lake Cathie - where David's parents live. Around 2 hours north of Newcastle. this time last year was at a snooty French lady... ha!
Our route Sydney Australia to Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay return (Ferry)
Buenos Aires to Santiago, Chile (Fly)
Santiago to Mendoza, Argentina return (Bus)
Santiago to Lima, Peru (Fly)
Lima to Cuzco, Bolivia (Fly)
La Paz, Bolivia to Quito, Ecuador (Fly) - night stop over in Lima
(Galapagos Islands trip (Fly and boat)
Guayaquil, Ecuador to Iguazu Falls, Argentina (lots of planes...)
Iguaza, Argentina to Buenos Aires (Fly)
Buenos Aires to Sydney 😊
Planning, planning and more planning... We started planning our route in a serious way just this month and booked all our internal flights using OneWorld South American Airpass - a 'cheaper' way to fly internally in SA. Initally it seemed like a fantastic bargain but then when you added the taxes, booking fee, etc etc it was a lot of cash. However we figure it will save around 250 hours on buses. Considering both David and I get VERY motion sick, this is a good thing!
We have packed up our house (well almost) and have the contents of our backpacks strewn across a spare room,

Some have the life... this is the view (from the opposite side of the beach) that David's parent have from their home. we're now at that stage where we are worried that we have forgotten to do something... we both keep writing more lists... I need to get on that plane!
David found this great website for me that I have been reading (I've decded that I love blogs), so helpful with planning:
- the site contains a great packing list and really helpful clothing, safety, travel tips. The other fantastic travel website that I have been using is - this site has great 1 and 2 week itineraries for loads of place. Very helpful. Lastly, David's great friends Wendy and Marty created a cool South American blog that we have loved reading .
The best hostel site that I have come across: cross referenced with
That's all folks
Mum could very well be the only person that reads this (and skims it no doubt!)... but if you do read it and want to know more or have any questions or comments - LET ME KNOW 😱, write a comment and tell us what is happening in your world.
Cheers
