Werd!!!!
Myself and another Canadian giving an official underwater gang sign Well what to say….We are certified divers now. I splurged and bought a super sweet mask and snorkel which will for sure come in handy in ASIA. I cannot wait to get out and do some dives in Thailand. Horray!
So where to start, where to start…Our last 2 dives were awesome with the last one being absolutely amazing. On the boat ride to Julian Rock we saw our first giant Sea Turtle surfacing for air. People told us how big they were, but until I actually saw one, I had no idea…wait for it….HOW BIG THEY ARE. The size of its head alone was ohhhhhh about the size of a fax machine. It was MASSIVE. Neatest thing ever. So on to the dive…we swam a little deeper on our last dive. We were probably about 17 m down. We swam through this little ravine and there were 10 Wobbegong sharks just laying at the bottom. We were pretty close to them, maybe a meter or 2 above them. So at the end of the ravine we swam out into this opening and it was crazy…you could see I swear, another 20 meters down. It was just this HUGE
Werd !!!! (part 2)
Miss T's underwater gang sign opening. It was one of those moments when you feel really small. Being able to see that far down was creepy. At first it felt (and be forewarned, what I am about to say is extremely dumb) like I was really high up and my heart jumped a bit for the fear of falling. Yes I know I was under water, but it was just the initial shock of seeing something like that. Damn I’m am amateur. Don’t tell anyone.
So that was fantastic. We decided to splurge (again) and go to the Blues and Roots fest for Friday. We saw the most amazing acts ever. This concert totally blew Big Day Out totally outta there.
*** just a note to Chad - this write up is dedicated to you buddy! ***
We saw the craziest acts ever. The first one was called GOCOO + GoRo. GOCOO is a Japanese group that features 7 females and 4 males playing Japanese Taiko drums and a digeridoo. There music has been used on movies (Matrix) and commercials (Hitachi & Toyota). This was the craziest show I have ever seen. The drumming was so powerful, and so flawless. I was
Shark!
The popular type of shark we saw...Wobbegong Sharks. I believe the biggest one was 3-4 ft wide and maybe 7 feet long. in total awe the whole time. It was the kind of show that makes all the hairs on your arms stand on end. Unreal.
The next show was Michael Franti. This style was Funk, Folk, Reggae and hip hop (including some impressive beat boxing) all thrown into one impressive show. His songs cover a wide range of issues - AIDS, Gay rights, homelessness, the criminal justice system, drug addictions and suicide. He really spoke to the audience. He became more than an artist with an appealing voice. He became a person on that stage, and a respectable one at that. Some of his songs were absolutely heart piercing. He had me misty eyed one minute and laughing the next. He is truly a unique artist.
The next artist was India.Arie. Her voice is so strong and her stage presence is overwhelming. She had a magnificently spiritual vibe that radiated from her body the second she walked on stage. She is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Her style is heartfelt soul/funk with gospel influences. Her songs/words were extremely inspiring as she took us down her road towards her personal self discovery. One of the highlights was when Damian Marley jumped on
Well well well...look who decided to pop out
I was cool with it as long as it didn't come too close:) stage and did a song with her. That was FULL ON.
And last but not least we were a stones throw away from long term local of the Byron area, PETE MURRAY. His voice is like melted chocolate surrounding fruit at a fondue party. During my time here Pete has really grown on me and I was so excited to see him preform in the flesh. While I felt that his stage presence was a little lacking; he didn’t seem to have that connection with the crowd, I enjoyed his songs immensely.
So that was the Blues and Roots fest in a nutshell. There were so many acts we really wanted to see...The Cat Empire, Xavier Rudd, Donavon Frankenreiter, Damian Marley (well for longer then one song), but there was no time. I guess Ill just save that for NEXT YEAR😊 Although there is a compilation CD that I will be ordering. For all my blog readers, its for sure something to look into - so many artists!
So thats what We have been up to. We are currently back in Nowra hanging out with Michelle and JR before we fly out of Sydney on the 23rd.
Some clown fish chilling in their anemones
I believe these are Tomato clowns...I think. Too bad I didn't see Nemo:( I am really sad to leave. These last few months have been nothing short of a fairy tale. But not to worry...Ill be back...
Cheers
