Hue and Hoi An

We arrived in Hue after another 14hr sleeper bus journey from Hanoi, we're still not getting used to them! After checking in and having a spot of lunch we set off to have a look around the Citadel. It was a really hot day and made walking there hard work so by missing the main entrance we ended up walking around the full wall of the site before even getting inside which we could have done without. The next disappointment came when we realised that it wasn't even that ancient of a Citadel and was only completed in 1830 and most of it had been destroyed during wars and had been rebuilt as late as 1997.

The next day we caught the bus on to our next destination after exhausting the tourist attractions of Hue in a day. The rain had come again so we didn't miss out by being on the bus. Again after checking in we went for a wonder around and found Hoi An to be much more laid back than anywhere else we had visited so far in Vietnam. Although the harassment from the salesman and the crazy driving is still part of the culture. Hoi An is known for tailor made clothes (made famous by Top Gear) and there is literally a tailors every next shop.

After a good nights rest we hired out some bikes from the hotel and cycled the 3km to the beach and spent the day topping up our tans and cooling down in the sea. The 3km cycle would have been made a lot easier if it wasn't for the Vietnamese traffic. Here it seems that blowing your horn isn't just for emergencies but for telling people your about to kill them with your vehicle so they better move. This is something else that adds to the sleeper bus experience as the horn doesn't stop at night.

Today we are having another wonder around town after a lazy morning, we even got to see a bit of Rugby League on the Australia Network channel in the hotel. We even get HBO so we can even watch a movie tonight!! Tomorrow we'll be heading to Nha Trang on another sleeper bus to get to our first sea side resort!!
