Flew out of Sydney to Auckland for a two hour stopover then on to Santiago in Chile, where the stopover was considerably longer (about 10 hours as it turned out).
Paid some cash to stay in a nice lounge for the duration. Food drink and shower were all welcome. Got to watch Australia get CRUSHED by Germany its first game of the World Cup.

After some less than minor confusion we left santiago a couple of hours late, in a different plane than our scheduled flight.

Arrived in Lima without too much drama at around 1am, although because we were late Victoria´s aunt Erica was unable to meet us at the airport.

So we pulled some US$ out of an atm and caught a taxi to Miraflores, the driver was quite skilled to get 4 large bags, 2 small bags and us all into his taxi. He took us to a pretty ordinary hotel called El Ejecutivo, but at 2am you can´t be choosy and I´m sure he got his kickback for delivering us 😊

The next day we moved to a better place called Bellavista, about twice as expensive but more than twice as good.
By expensive I mean 100 soles per day for a large room with a double bed ensuite toilet and shower, breakfast included. That figures out at a bit less than AU$45 a day.

Security
About Lima. Do you feel secure in terms of crime? I get mixed replies from different forums. I am thinking as long as you have good judgement yiou should be safe. Could you please comment ? Your reply is much appreciated.. Thanks.. Luis

Some care helps
I have not experienced or seen crime so far, but we take care and stay out of dodgy areas unless in a group. Note that I am traveling with a Peruvian native, so that helps a lot.
