Placement and Mamelodi Holiday Camp

Well I have officially been placed in the Pretoria area for my six month internship. The ministries I will be involved in are prison ministry, coaching at a local school, coaching in Mamelodi township, office work, and also playing on a local team. I will also be helping organize a Freestyle tournament in local malls, the Grimolby Cup, Match for a Day, and also a tour to Uganda at the end of September and early October. I am excited to finally have been placed and can now really starting to engage where I am at. AIS is still trying to sort out all of my finances and my host family so please be in prayer regarding these two things.

This week I helped out at a Holiday Camp in the Mamelodi township. AIS had previously trained local coaches to run the camp, so our jobs were simply to assist the local coaches in whatever areas needed. About 200 kids attended the soccer part of the camp each day and the other organization involved estimated that around 1000 children were fed at the camp each day. The soccer camp provided a clinic and a time for bible study each day. I ran some of the bible times in a small group as we went through a short story of Jonah. The most encouraging part of the camp was to be able to witness local coaches run a successful soccer camp in their own community. God is good and I know that many children were able to hear the Gospel this week, which is more important than any of the soccer. I pray that God would continue to work in the lives of all of the children that came to the camp this week. I am so blessed to have this opportunity to be here in South Africa!
