I can't believe that this is our 8th day on the road already. It is flying by so fast !! First I have to wish my Daddy and Daddy Jack a very Happy Father's Day today and tell them how much I miss them and wish they were here with us..........they would absolutely love all this cowboy and indian and country stuff. Tim and I are so blessed with two of the greatest dad's in the whole world and I just hate it that we're not with them today but I know they still love us and understand. We had a nice and cool evening last night here in Alamosa, Colorado so we slept with the windows open and the fans going and it was wonderful. The air here is so crisp and clean and it just feels so good to wake up and take a deep breath of fresh air. We woke up and began this Father's Day just like all the other days before...shower, breakfast, clean-up and off we go. Today we were headed to the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve which was fairly close to Alamos so luckily the drive wasn't too bad. Once we started
getting close to the dunes we could see them from miles away. It was an amazing site to see...just imagine sand castles that are 650 feet high in the air. It is truly an incredible thing to see.....God really did good on this one. All you can do is just stare in amazement and look and wonder how in the world these things were formed. We entered the park and made our way over to the front gates that led you to the little river you had to cross to get to the sand. Of course we had to stop and play in the water for a few minutes and ponder over whether or not we really wanted to attempt to climb these mountains of sand. Well heck yes we were going to climb them, we had driven all the way from Georgia to see them and I wasn't leaving until we tried to get to the top. We headed off across the sand like we were pros but we soon found out that it was a heck of a lot harder than it looked. The brochure said to wear closed toe shoes because the sand can get up to
140 degrees hot but we didn't listen. I had on my Teva's and Tim had on his flip-flops......yep we're stupid !! We treked across the sand and up the hills and we actually made it a lot further than I thought we would but the sand was so dang hot and the wind was blowing sand in our eyes, ears and mouth and we just couldn't go any further. Yep, we're a bunch of slackers but hey at least we tried and we had fun doing it. We actually got a lot of exercise and my legs are still hurting a little tonight. Once we came back down from the dunes we rested our hot, tired and worn out feet in the icy cold waters of the river and then we rinsed off and made our way back to the motorhome. I must say that was a great experience and Tim and I had a great time doing it together. Our next destination was a small town that we had discovered two years ago on our trip and Tim was just dying to go back. It's a quaint little town at the bottom of Colorado and it's called Durango. Tim
has this crazy fantasy that we're going to sell everything, pack up our belongings and move out to Durango but he just had one obstacle in his way......my MOMMA !! She told him he can't move me away until she dies and she don't plan on dying anytime soon so he best get used to living in Henry County. He even offered to fly her out twice a month and she ain't havin' none of that......seriously, there is no way I'm leaving my kids and my family. I actually fell in love with Durango myself but I just can' do it plus there's no way in the world our son Jason is going to let us leave either. Oh well, back to reality, we started the long trip across the Colorado Rockies and soon came upon a llama farm so we just had to stop. I got out and played with the llamas for a few minutes but Tim was in a hurry to get across the Continental Divide so we were soon back on the road. Before I knew it we were 10,885 feet in the air and we were crossing the Great Divide. I looked over and there
were snow capped mountains everywhere. It was a gorgeous site to see, even if my ears were poppin' like a bag of microwave popcorn. We stopped for a few minutes to admire the beautiful scenery and then we were off to Durango. We eventually reached our destination around 5:00 p.m. and found a great parking space right in downtown. Tim popped open a cold beer and laid back on the couch for a minute to rest. Those long drives through the mountains can be pretty rough but he always keep going like a little trooper. Thank goodness his shoulder is feeling a little bit better although it would be much better if we had Lynn with us again. She always massaged Tim's shoulders for him after a long hard drive but she couldn't join us this year and he sure is missing her. After a short rest, we made our way into town and began meandering through all the little shops and talking to some of the locals. We bought a couple of t-shirts and then settled in at Francisco's for dinner. I had the spinach stuffed chicken and Tim had the pork marsala and both were fabulous ! Of
course we ate too much so we headed on out back to the streets of downtown Durango for another stroll so we could walk off the dessert we endulged in even though we knew better. We walked for a little while, enjoying the cool evening air and the beautiful sunset and then we came upon a young man named Scott. He was peddling a pedicab and offered us a ride. We gladly accepted and Scott took us on the grand tour of Durango. It was so much fun being rode around in that cute little pedicab........I felt like I was special or something. After we found out how much he charged, I really felt special !! Anyway, he dropped us off and we strolled around for a little longer and then made our way back to the motorhome. We had to get over to the Wal-Mart and get settled in before all the good spots got taken plus we had to call it an early night because we had to be up at the crack of dawn in the morning. We had to be at the train station at 7:15 for our 3 1/2 hour scenic train ride through the
Colorado Rockies. When we arrived at Wal-Mart, Tim went inside to pick up a few things while I got everything prepared for bed. I'm so excited about the train ride tomorrow and can't wait to see how it goes. Night night.

When I get to certain point in my life, I've decided to try and do something just like you guys are doing. Love being able to ride with you two, keep trucking!
