ACTION!ACTION!ACTION!

I took these pictures from my living room window; see the ambulance on fire? People stood around watching them film, trying to get autographs and pictures with the main actor.
These last few days it has really hit me how much I'm going to miss Chile when I leave. I only have one month left here and though I couldn't be more excited to go home and see everyone and everything that I know, it is definitely going to be a crazy experience, probably just as crazy as coming here was. So, I've been taking complete advantage of every second I have left in Santiago! My days have been full of studying for final exams at the cafe al lado, buying fresh produce at La Vega, yoga classes and seeing the city. My nights (and sometimes into the days!) have been pura carrete (partyingggg)! The weekends are for ferias (similar to swap-meets), checking out nearby towns and of course, more partying 😊

Since the world cup began, there is a new energy flowing through Santiago. The people are OBSESSED! It's so much fun to be here for it! The games play live here and the city puts everything on hold to see them (including classes). Chile played Honduras yesterday morning at 7am; everyone set their alarms, painted their faces and cheered on their team. I woke up around 9am to
ACTION!ACTION!ACTION!

One day I went to the little liquor store under my apartment and made small talk with some random guy inside. When I went to the cashier, he asked me if I knew who I was talking to... I had no idea it was some really famous actor!!!
the sounds of horns and people screaming the country's famous chant, "Chi-Chi-Chi, Le-Le-Le, Viva Chile!". When I went to the window, there was a parade of people dressed in the country colors passing by and others throwing paper confetti out the windows of their apartments and offices. My street was covered with confetti and I don't think I spoke to one person that day that didn't mention the game!

For the past week, HBO has been filming part of a series in front of my apartment. We have been waking up every morning to the sounds of gunshots and screaming extras, then the chaos stops for a minute, you hear "posiciones porfavor, posiciones porfavor", and the FBI agents start chasing down the gunmen again. I heard a big BOOM one day and went to my window to see people in body bags and an ambulance in flames literally on my doorstep!! Two nights in a row I had super violent bad dreams- people dying, me running away from someone, etc. I couldn't figure out why I would be having these dreams when I'm on cloud nine in my life right now, then I realized that walking through a shooting

fest to get to my door everyday probably had something to do with it!!!

Well, I have a lot of plans for my last weekends in Chile. This weekend I'm heading to a little artisan town nearby, have a birthday party and a going away party for a girl in my program. The next weekend I believe I'm off to Mendoza, Argentina and the following weekend I'm heading to Valparaiso. Ahhh, ONE MONTH!!!!!!!

There's not many pictures but here are a few of whats been going on over on this side of the equator...

This one was also taken from my living room window. I didn't get my camera in time to get a picture of the huge crowd that had just passed by chanting.

Paul was my travel buddy through parts of Peru and Bolivia. We didn't plan the trip together but kept running into each other- after we crossed paths in Cusco and La Paz, we took it as a sign that we should travel together for a bit!
