There is no combination of words I could use to describe the taxi drive from Gandhi International airport to our hostel located off the main bazaar near Connaught Place - the best I can do is say that it is an absolute free for all, with maybe five cars wide filling what might be three lanes. Anyone who thinks Mexico has the craziest traffic, has clearly never been to Delhi. It's quite remarkable that there are not more wrecks. We arrived to our hostel around 10:00pm Friday night, checked in, walked around the neighborhood, and slept. The most shocking images have been of the poor near our hostel. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people sleeping on the street, either directly on the concrete or in makeshift beds, rickshaws, or tents - a lot of these people are children. There are also hundreds of stray dogs, cows, goats and chickens everywhere, as well as men selling everything from T-Shirts to hashish to what seems to be women. The main streets are lined with off-shooting alleys that are very narrow and encompass hundreds of little shops, all of which finds us, as tourists, to be prime targets for solicitation. Brian is most definitely the largest human on the entire subcontinent - everyone from men to children stare at him and often snicker. He seems oblivious, however, to most of this.

Saturday, we woke early and had free breakfast at our hostel - fried egg sandwiches and cereal with goats milk - then set out towards Connaught Place, but ended up in a tourist office and spent the day touring Delhi in our own private car for less than what would be $12. We saw the largest mosque in India (the 3rd largest in the world), Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, Old Delhi bazaars (where we bought authentic Indian clothing), Lodi Gardens and a handful of other sights as well. We attached the pictures from today, although they really don't do any of it justice.
