The Edge Of The WorldThe Edge Of The WorldThe Edge Of The World

Apparently it is............read the plaque for yourself.
From Stanley where we had the best home-made scones with home-made raspberry Jam and cream, we headed to Murrawah which is the North Western most point in Tasmania (via main road). We stayed at Arthur Pieman Conservation Area overnight and the next day proceeded to drive to Corrina, which is inland from the coast. More amazing wild rugged country where the coastline experiences roaring 40 winds from the Southern Ocean. (close to the Antartic here and quite cold considering its only March). We camped at Corrina overnight and loved it here. Nestled in a rainforest alongside the Savage River, here platypus would play and at night the nocturnal mammals such as the wallaby and possums would wake and visit the fireside to see if we might feed them a little something. You are not encouraged to feed these animals as it is better for them to find food in their natural habitats. From Corrina we drove up to Cradle Valley and did some great walking tracks. A favourite was Dove Lake Circuit, one of the 60 best short walks in Tasmania, we also did Snake Hill, Ronny River, Cradle Falls & Crater Lake. From Cradle Valley we headed to Strahan where

we stayed 3 days. No photos of Cradle Valley in this part of the blog but I will add them in later as we went back up to Cradle Valley again to climb the Cradle Valley Summit.....bit like climbing Everest really....well I thought it was. Enjoy Possums

This is the barge which crosses the Savage River, from here you can drive to a place called Zeehan. Our car & caravan was too long and too heavy to take the barge. Weight is not to exceed 6.5 tonnes and wheel track 9mtrs in length. I must admit I didn't like the idea of going on it anyway. Over the years they have lost a couple of 4WD's off this barge which they have never retrieved. Water depth is approx. 18 mtrs to the bottom. Tiger snakes also live in the river.......how lovely.

Corrina
17/4/2010 We did the trip from Waratah to corinna and then out to Tulah and back to Waratah today. It was fantastic. Really loved Corrina and had the best lunch at the pub. We left our van at Waratah and have done some side trips from there including Cradle Mt. Great little town - 421 at council park with free washing and dryers. May do the Pieman cruise tomorrow if we can book.
