Hello again! Week 5 and just finished working on Turtle Island. It was hard work and not so much fun cleaning turtle poo and chopping fish guts! Working in the turtle nursery was good though, cleaning their shells and giving them medicine. We also combed the beach for plastic and glass rubish and swept leaves, which i thought was a bit odd on a deserted island?!! Been living in a shared house with the other volunteers, but there is no aircon. The heat is getting to me a bit now and ive been attacked by sand flys this week, i look like i have a leg of measles.
We had to get an 8am boat to the island each morning, my stomach dropped as we walked towards what i can only describe as the most sinkable looking boat in the harbour. When they started to load crates of fish and barrels of petrol i really started to get worried! My housemate Kenda was a little more concerned, at least i can swim!
Hired another moped today and went along the coast eating weird food and stopping for a swim every now and then, its a hard life! Rayong is
only a small town so not much cocktail action this week, its friday night and i just did my washing and sewed a button back on my shorts, party time.
Making my way back to Surin tomorrow night on an overnight bus. Working in the Elephant village next week and apparently there are no other volunteers, just me and a non english speaking thai village, eeek!
