A 12 hour sleeper train journey led us to Varanasi and the river Ganga. An evening wander along the ghats brought us face to face with just how holy this river is..... people washing their clothes, their children, their teeth and their sins along with the cows going for their evening dip. A wander further along brought us to the first of the burning ghats where the cremation of loved ones takes place in front of your eyes.

The next day, an early cruise saw how important this river is to Hindu's carrying out their morning rituals. This time is was the boat wallah's trying their hand at our big rupee .... hello boat? Hello madam you want boat? BOAT? (we wondered if that was our name) and then the usual last ditch attempt .... hashish???? Even on the river you weren't safe from the touts selling their tut, as they followed tour groups along the river in their tiny canoes laden with souvineers!

After four days here it was time to head for the hills and cross the border into Nepal. Our first stop Pokhara and the Annapurna's.

Our 5 day trek to someof the highest points on earth was both enjoyable and treacherous at the same time. Well worth it as on the second day we reached a height of 2800 metres to witness an amazing panorama whilst the sun was setting.
