We moved into our apartment at 1118 Juan Manuel on Friday the 29th. It's in Colonia Americana which is a great location within walking distance to Mercado Centenario, grocery stores, lavanderia, an organic bakery that sells home made veggie burgers and excellent Neveria's. and we're close to the bus stop. Our apartment is old and seems to have been abandoned for awhile but we are making the best of it. The guy we are renting it from, Jose, whom we found on Craigslist isn't the best landlord but he gave us some of his furniture so our apt is 1/3 furnished.
Guadalajara has been an interesting last stop for us in Mexico. One of the best things about it (that we noticed right away) was the outness and openness of so many lesbians that we saw on the street. We have seen more queer women (or who we assumed to be queer women) here than anywhere else in Mexico. We also got a chance to visit the newly opened first lesbian bar, D'Planet. The owner hugged us all when we walked in and brought us tacos for dinner. I have never had that kind of a welcome before! We were pleased
that our last stop on the trip was a place where we always felt comfortable holding hands on the street. I look back at many places we've been and often we didn't feel that level of comfort.
A highlight of our Guadalajara stay is when our friends from NYC, Katrina and Elizabeth visited us for a week. The downside to our last month was when I ended up in the hospital in Puerto Vallarta from a stomach infection. But all in all, we have had a fantastic last month on our trip and are nowhere near ready to go home....i can't even begin to think about it...
