1: carnaval! 28 secs
All the waiting in the heat was so worth it! We went last night for our first time to the Sambodromo - where the samba schools parade - and this is Shakked's description and some photos:
"Yesterday we went to see the 12 samba schools who were not the best, but the second best, perform in the Carnaval. They made not have been the best, but their costumes and floats were astounding, amazing, breathtaking. The costumes were festooned with feathers, brightly colored streamers, weird, hats, and crazy clothes. You name it, it was on one of the costumes. Piranhas, ships, horses, hoses, dirty bags of flour, newspapers -everything. The floats, if possible, were even better. Again, you name it, it was on one of the floats. They were studded with huge orange birds, waves, pillars, drums, dragons, and knights. There were even platforms for people to sand on and dance. If these were the second-best ones, the best ones must be really cool. By the way, we only managed to see six schools because we got really tired at 1:30am.”
Amit adds: “The six schools we saw had these themes: The first school - the uses of steel; the second school - how Rio looked in the 1800s; the third school - Queen Jinga, the African queen/king who united the African nations to fight against the Portugese; the fourth school - a woman journalist who helped women be educated in the 1930s; the fifth school - the uses of water, pollution and conservation; the sixth school - the underwater world of Aquatocopolis. The best float was in the sixth school. It was different because it was supposed to be like a wave and was slanted.”

I sent you a comment two days ago, but it somehow disappeared in transit. It was just to tell you we were waiting "with bated breath" (to use Shakked's words) for your description of the carnival. So here we got a tasting, and are waiting for further descriptions. Saba and I are looking at the pictures you took and we can't believe it. Even in photos it looks - well, amazing. Amiti, I looked at the pictures again and realized I'd missed your bead work. Gorgeous. What patience you have! It is difficult to see whether they are 2-D or 3-D. What are they? If I remember correctly Doda Moria showed you how to make 3-D animals. Correct? We miss you. Neshikot, Tutu Belina

Chinese New Year?
Sounds so fun. Loved all the colorful costumes and floats! When we saw the video Nesya was wondering if this was part of Chinese New Year, since she just took part in a noisy parade with her class for that.
