The fence work continues and it looks like it MAY be done today if they come to work. Esteban, one of the brothers working here, was hosting a Quince party for his daughter on Friday evening and he invited us to come. For anyone who may not know, a Quince is an important birthday for a young lady. As she turns 15 (quince), she passes from childhood into adulthood. Her parents honor her with a party. Some parties can be very elaborate with 15 female and male attendants representing each year of the girl's life. They can be as formal and expensive as a wedding! Anyway, we felt privileged to be included. We knew that this was going to be a very informal affair as I asked what I should wear. We got there around 6.30 and Esteban and his brother, Isidro, and Esteban's son, Mauro, immediately saw to us, served us beer and made sure that one of them was with us at all times so that we would not feel "abandoned". If one of them had to go do something, they called over another member of the family to keep us company! In any case, it was fun and the party was simple. All of the guests were either family or friends. All of the family lives in the very same area and are actually neighbors. Another of Isidro's and Esteban's brother, Miki, is in a band so we also had live music! I think we met all of the other 9 siblings and their husbands and children. Their dad, Papi, was there and was happy to have us there. He is 75.

Isidro and Esteban were explaining to us yesterday during their lunch break, that 64 is the age that Mexicans aspire to live. Isidro is 34 and said that he only has 30 more years to live. He pointed out that Mike only has 4 more and I have 9. They were dead (???lol) serious about this and said that most do not live past 64 so if you do, there is another party at 65 to celebrate that you broke the "statistic". I guess the mean life span is 64 for Mexicans.

So, the fence continues. The boys said that they would be "late" to work today b/c of the fiesta. It is now 9.26. Will they come? Will the work be finished today? It could be. But will it? Don't hold your breath. They got a LOT done in 2 days so why rush now?

Ah.............I still love it!

An honor....
...to be included in a family party. Papi has certainly beaten the odds, hasn't he?? Last week the rains came and lasted forever, causing a lot of damage (not in my area) with flooding, mudslides, evacuations and even a couple of tornados touching down. Always something going on here! I'll be in Denver Feb.5-16. Angie is going on a business trip to Peru and I'll be on hand to help out with the little boys in the mornings/evenings. Kevin said he could sure use an extra pair of hands; Riley is 21 mo. and Caleb is 3 mo., still require lots of attention. They will continue going to daycare as usual, so I'll have my days free and I just hope it doesn't snow 22" again like it did back in October....I want to be able to get out and about. Good luck with the fence..........N.
