For our last big Ghanaian adventure we went again to the beloved volta region. This time we set off in search of the country's highest mountain Mt Gemi with aim to climb a bit of it and spend some time at the village at its peak.
After we arrived in Fume, a villabe at the base of the mountain we caught a tro tro to a mid point village. From there we took the footpath up the rest of the way up the 885 meter mountain. It was verrrrry steep and hot, and i will admit that my climbing wasnt on top form. This was NOT helped by the 60+ year old residents of the area who repeatedly passed me up, or by the shoeless children balancing bowls of bananas on thier heads while skipping past me on thier way down the path. ONce we reached the top however, we realized taht the climb was well worth it, you could see togo and lake volta from the village. The stunning views combined with the nice community atmosphere to make the place a great stay.
A few days later, After seeing waterfalls surrounded by flowers and looking out over the countryside, we went to tafi atome. There is a monkey sanctuary there, and we spent the night in hopes of seeing some of these distant cousins of ours in the wild. well, wild they were when they came running through the camp, jumping on the roof and playing with one another. They were afraid of people, but not so much as to run away, which means i got some great photos! The next morning we had a little tour at 6 am to try and see them again. Our guide brought bananas, which are apparently irresistable to the little guys. they love bananas so much that tehy came up and ate them from our hands!! It was really really fun, and the little monkeys were very greedy, especially the babies!
All in all, It was a great way to spend my last week in Ghana, and ill see everyone soon!
ciao!

looking forward to Sunday
Hei MarMar, I'm so excited that you are soon to be home. The experience of climbing the mountain is one I would pass on due to the heat, but it sounds like it was a spectacular view. I can't wait to see the pictures! So there is a reason for the monkey and banana stereotype! Have a good flight and look forward to some pampering when you arrive :) Love, Momba
