Hi all,
Thanks for the messages, We hope you are all getting excited for Christmas, we see a few Christmas trees here and there and a few cardboard snowmen, but it doesn't seem quite realistic in the 30 degree heat!!
We have had a great 2 weeks in Malaysia, it was a good start as we arrived at the airport & saw a load of ex-professional footballers flying in to take part in a Masters tournament. Mark was further pleased when he was asked by the photographer if he was one of the team. I think I blew his cover as I don't look much like a footballers wife !!
We had a few days in Melaka, a historical Malaysian town with lots of British & Dutch Architecture. The highlights were the enduring beauty museum ( all about tribal efforts to enhance beauty eg inserting a 10 inch plate into your top lip- I'll stick to Mascara!) , McDonalds(sorry, it had to be done) & going to the cinema twice!
We then went North east to the Cameron Highlands, a very windy journey, but beautiful scenery & lovely & cool when we arrived. We stayed at a lovely place called Father's Guest house, the staff we really friendly and it had a nice lounge areas with sofas, films & Cadbury's hot chocolate. We met some lovely people including Gustav, a Swedish birdwatcher who kept breaking into David Attenborough impressions in the middle of a conversation, very funny! And Sarah & Michelle, 2 nurses from Manchester. We've continued traveling with the girls and its been lovely chatting with fellow Northerners about family life & what food we are missing! We did a few treks in the highlands and only once got caught in a downpour. I (Jo) was delighted to find the local delicacy was strawberry Scones with tea from the local plantations, yum, a little taste of home!
We then went to a small island called Pulau Pangkor for a couple of days, nice beach with what appeared to be lovely sea, however after swimming to a nearby island with stepped out the water with a brown film on our bodies, we later noticed that the hotel sewage was going directly into the sea, not surprisingly we didn't do any more swimming!! We did enjoy "Daddys cafe" with lovely fresh fish until we notice a rat going into the washing up area. We concluded that we prefer European beach resorts!!!
We are currently in KL & tomorrow we fly to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat which we're really looking forward to!
Good luck with the Christmas Shopping!
Lots of love
Jo & Mark
