Well, we made it to Macchu Picchu with no blisters, but very sore legs & although it was a hard walk we really enjoyed it. Its nearly a month since we started the inca trail & we have been really busy. The trail was great, really beautiful scenery. The hardest day was day 2 when we had to climb up to a high altitude to dead womens pass, thankfully named after the shape of the mountain, rather than statistics!! It was pretty tough going, as the high altitude made it hard to breath but luckily I had my Ipod with me & the lovely tones of lionel helped me out!!! Mark was the first of our group to get to the top which he was very pleased about I was walking on my own when I ... read more

Thankfully we have survived our 9 day tour in the jungle with a mear few mosquito bites. No jaguar attacks, snake or spider bites, but a few funny encounters with the wildlife! It wasn't long into the trip before I felt the adrenalin pumping! The road we travelled on was probably the worst I've ever been on in my life. A narrow dirt road, really uneven from loads of landslides & a complete sheer drop to the side with about a 1000 metre drop. I had to close my eyes for most of the journey! We travelled throught the cloud forest & stopped to view the "Cock of the rock " birds performing their "display" for the ladies. Beautiful birds but obviously the display was not good enough as no girls showed up! We enjoyed our ... read more

Since last writing we've been in the north of Argentina, Northern Chile & now Peru! needless to say we're abit tired!! We had a nice few days in Salta la Linda. Its a very pretty city, unfortunately we were both unwell with a cold but it was a nice place to chill out & we were feeling better in time for the hostel's weekly BBQ & folk dancing night which was great! We met another english couple & travelled with them to JuJuy further north. From here we took a bus to Purmamarca which has beautiful multicoloured mountains. Then we were ill again with tummy bugs but still managed to enjoy a fantastic steak on our last night. We then took a bus over to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. It is a really remote ... read more

We left New Zealand at 1630 on the thursday & arrived in Chile at 12 on the thursday, the first time I've ever gone back in time!! We have a had a great first few weeks In Chile & Argentina with Jen & Thomas. It was a particular help that Thomas speaks fantastic spanish! We had a couple of nights in Santiago, adjusting to the time differences & then took a bus further south to Temuco. The bus passed through some areas that had been badly affected by the earthquake. It was a Sunday & we passed through a village where everyone was gathered outside the church. There was rubble everywhere & so many homes that had collapsed. Along the road we passed several bridges that had collapsed but it was amazing how much they had ... read more

We have enjoyed the last few days of our time in New Zealand, trying to appreciate the western comforts & ease of speaking English before we fly to Chile tomorrow! We returned to the North Island & had a few days in Napier where we stayed in a little cabin on a holiday park, which made a nice change from hostels. We had a look around Hawke’s Bay on a wine tasting tour which was great. The tour we booked on had been overbooked so we were put on a nicer one with just one other couple. They knew a lot more about wine than us & maybe thought we were a little strange when Mark & I agreed that one of the wines had the aroma of Baked Beans. Maybe we’ve had a few too ... read more

We had a lovely few days in pretty Arrowtown. We met a geordie couple from Gosforth & talking to them made us feel at home. We moved on to Wanaka & did a good walk up to a glacier, even better was our trip to Puzzle world. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to complete the maze there. Not the usual way i spend my time! Next we went up to the glaciers & did a days walking on the Franz Joseph glacier with plenty of layers on & our crampons. It was really good fun walking on the ice & we went through a few tight squeezes. They took us to a new route through a split in the ice. Lets just say it was touch & go that we got through, a girl ... read more

We have been very lucky with plenty of sunshine continuing (sorry to rub it in, I know you’re still all cold in England!). We’ve had a busy couple of weeks moving on every couple of days in our old banger that is doing very well! We had a great few days in Kaikora with Amy & her friend Bryony. We stayed in a lovely hostel called Bad Jelly (named after the Spike Milligan story), with a nice garden. We went Kayaking up towards a seal colony they were swimming right next to us, Amy & Bryony managed to get their kayak stuck on the rocks by the seals & it was only afterwards that we were told you shouldn’t get too close to them as they can be aggressive, oops! We dropped the girls off ... read more

NZ has kicked off well, may it continue! We had great weather as we flew over from Australia & great scenery as we landed. We picked up our rental car, which is even older than our Mondeo was, but seems to be doing Ok so far! We head straight up to Northland to the lovely seaside resort of Pahia on the Bay of Islands. We stayed in a great hostel called the Pickled Parrott & Mark was delighted that they actually had a parrot there. He was called Rockie & was very friendly, he would just climb up the chair & onto your knee when sitting down. There was also a cat called Betty & I was quite confused when the cat walked in & the parrot started meowing!! It also did a great impression of ... read more

We had a great week in Cairns & were very fortunate to have lots of sunshine even though it’s the wet season there currently. We did a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef . It didn’t take much persuading for us to hire a stinger suit! We were slightly concerned when we arrived at our first snorkelling spot & it was full of jellyfish. We were quickly reassured when we saw someone holding one in their bare hands, no sting! It still felt strange to push them out of the way as you were swimming & we were glad to be wearing our suits. The reef was amazing, so many colourful fish. The highlight was seeing Wally, a Maori Wrasse fish who regularly comes up to the boat. He was huge, about 1-2 meters & ... read more

We have had a fantastic first week In Australia It has been lovely to come to a warmer climate. We’ve spent the week in Sydney & it has flown by. We were pretty shattered when we arrived as it was an overnight flight & we didn’t get much sleep at all. I think that was partly because of all the great films that were on including the Micheal Jackson this is it film which was great! We felt much better stepping out into the sunshine & having a walk around the lovely botanical gardens, taking in the famous sights of the Opera House & Harbour Bridge. We were very excited to go to the supermarket & buy cereal, pasta & cadburys chocolate! It has been lovely to be able to cook for ourselves. We enjoyed our ... read more
