From Tokyo to Xi'an

Here's the route so far. We'll keep you posted.

We are about to leave Beijing for the train station. This place is pretty wonderful. We saw the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Lama Temple, a Taoist Temple, Tianamen Square. We ate pizza for 25 cents, pork kidney and liver (surprising yet tasty) with beer and fixins' for $5, sushi for $15, and some delicious Peking Duck. We met people from Canada, Britain, India, and China.

We only got duped into one "Art Exhibition" and we can now count to 9,999 in Chinese. We also know the symbol for beef and we are working on mastering the phrases, "No thank you, I don't want to buy anything," and, "Can I have the check please?" Things are going well.

We are now off to Xi'an en route to Shanghai through Zhengzou. This short little summary doesn't do justice to all of the things we've seen and learned but we still haven't had an opportunity to put pictures up so it will have to do.

Vietnam is nixed off the list. Too much red tape and too much time to wait in Hong Kong have led us to going in different directions. We'll be in China until the 29th of March and then we fly directly to Bangkok from Hong Kong.

China plans to be the premier tourist destination by 2020 and it's obvious that we are a few years early. We keep reading about all this amazing stuff that will be happening (less restrictions for getting into Tibet, faster trains, more trains in certain cities, the Summer Olympics, etc.) but it's still pretty damn cool...literally. We saw snow this morning but otherwise the weather has been great.

Just wanted to fill you guys in on the goings on. We'll update again soon.
