StupaStupaStupa

This hosts 8000 human skulls from the victims. The Stupa was built in memorial for the prisoners who were killed at the Killing Fields
Today we visited the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek which is situated 15km out of Phnom Penh city.
This is where most of the 17,000 detainees held at the S-21 prison (Tuol Sleng Museum), were brought to be executed.
Now a very quiet and peaceful place, it really is controversy to the atrocities that happened here. There is an enormous Stupa, with a glass tower containing 8000 human skulls from the victims and their discarded clothes.
The most disturbing part of the trip, was discovering the ''Killing Tree'', which was where the Khmer Rouge would hold babies and children by the legs, and smash their skulls against the tree trunk untill they were dead!!! The reason they killed the babies, children and teenagers was so that in later life, they could not come back and seek revenge!!!
Position near to this tree was another one called the ''Magic Tree''. This tree was used to hang large speakers in which they would play loud music, to drown out the cries from the prisoners being murdered. It was also a way of preventing the surrounding Cambodian residents in the area, from hearing the murders taking place!!!
As we were on our hired bike again today, the ride back into the city was very fun.
We had met an Australian couple at the Killing Feilds, and it was 'Me and Rik' V 'The Ausey's' both racing back to the city on our 125cc bikes!!! First place was the obvious winner!!!
We must of looked soooo funny to the locals....these two motorbikes weaving in-between the traffic at a million miles an hour, rinsing it to the point that they nearly blew up lol!!! Wiiiiiiinnnnngggggg, wiiiiiiinnnnnngggg, wiiiinnnnnnnnngggg ..... We won of course!!!!
Anyway we have booked our 6 hour bus trip up to Siem Reap for tomorrow at 12.30pm. We have loved being in Phnom Penh, but we're now looking forward to the Angkor Wat Temples, to which some consider the eighth wonder of the world!!!
