I just ate at Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant in PMburg. I had been there once before back in 2006..
it is yummy stuff.. but not only was the food quite lekker and nice, I was treated to R. Kelly "Ignition".
seriously, who could ask for more? The Chinese South Africans are a strange group-- they have been here longer than many of the Greek, Lebanese and Mauritian communities yet they are so much less assimilated.. they really just stay to themselves..their accents are much more Chinese than SA and most of the time, their English is not the best.. it is interesting.
Kaptein Kaptein- Radio Kalahari Orkes ..
Time passes so quickly.. in a few weeks it will be Thanksgiving.. obviously I don't get that here-- but it is just, quickly the weeks have gone by..I can single out moments and memories from these last 5 weeks being back Suid Afrika-- but it truly has gone by in a flash. I enjoy my walks, I pass the same fields and trees and hills-- and signs and even some of the same people (ladies working in the fields) BUT each time I notice something new, something to keep my interest
growing-- Cyril spoke to a friend of his that runs the Vans' Hotel here in town..and if the Amangwe plan does not work out which I am hoping hoping hoping that it does-- I could possibly go on as a cook for the hotel--room would be provided--it is great to know people that will automatically go out of their to help--when they see things are not going quite right..
Had a lovely evening with Cyril and Elsie the other night, sundowners in the garage looking out over the hills as the red and gold sun was closing down on the greenery. we were
talking about work, lack of, cars, life back in Rhodesia, racism and reality--throwing phutu(or sadza as they said in Rhodesia) to the chickens and guinea fowl..Cyril knows so much about the locals wildlife, even pointing out birds I did not even notice-- hiding in the trees-- calling out--all drowned out by the mighty fish eagles' call..could hear vervet monkeys playing in the background. By the way, I saw the biggest cane rat I have ever seen the other days walking towards their house..had to have been three feet and fat too..and to think that people
eat them--poor cane rats. it looked at me before it disappeared into the sugarcane field. .
last couple nights spent with Neil and Ingrid..helping with computer work, helping tidy up and cooking. I love to cook and Ingrid loves having a break. The trailer Neil and Andre are working on is really coming together-- and we tested it yesterday--have to remove the ramps and then re-weld them further out--add the lights, license plate--paint it red and yellow
apparently..
saw Andres' art yesterday. I was surprised, it is really great stuff. He spends months glueing tiny tiny beads onto glass ,burning strategically, melting copper onto the glass--and at the end he has incredible pieces --ranging from surprisingly Catholic-looking crucifixion scenes to abstracts concerning pollution and mans' strange path of destruction upon our planet.. really great stuff.if I could afford to, I would buy a couple that I really liked-- not now though-- I am on my feet, per say, but..not stable enough yet.
it is finally starting to warm up, yesterday it was scorching--sweat dripping baking heat-- and I loved it. I was so ready to get away from the cold cold wind and rain.. Neil took to
wearing only shorts, quite ..well.. short shorts for the remainder of the day.
Everyone hope, wish and pray or whatever it is you do..Aaliya from Amangwe is meeting with the committee on 17 November to see what we can do about getting me on there at Amangwe..and looking into the backpackers.. thanks.
take care

Throw not to the wind, these one or two thoughts
rather find a sanctuary
these heavy drops are sinking even heavier on my mind
as i arise, though, the red burns through the blues
and a smile climbs from that rough cloth cut
deep cut , with barefoot mind and sleeping child
hanging on the line, tangled up with all these cords and
extensions-- even the flies find sullen comfort tonight
but i can breathe in that night air, hear comfort
feel comfort and await its' travels
cannot meet or match your pocket book
but can vagabond and wander
without wondering whether or not
i did or did not do
with comfort.
