4pm Tuesday

I am listening to my feliz navidad mix. Yes, I know it’s only November. I usually don’t start up the Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. However, I am so damn excited about being home for Christmas this year that I can’t help myself!

So! Lenin and I went to Managua Sunday late afternoon and arrived after dark. Monday morning we had the tourist visa interview, which eventually took place at a counter with a visa agent behind the glass.

So our number is called and Lenin passes his application and passport and the guy looks at me and is like, “So who are you?” I said I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer and his fiancée. The agent is like, “How long have you known each other?” and I say that, actually, I met Lenin exactly one year ago, Nov 2nd, Day of the Dead. Then he asked how long I’ve been here - over a year - and how much longer I have - a year left. Then he was like, when and where will the wedding be? July of 2010 in San Lucas. “And your family is coming down for this?” And I say I hope so, but I would like them to meet Lenin before the wedding. Then he looks at Lenin and asks if he speaks English, and Lenin answers, in perfect English, that he is studying the language, but then switches to Spanish and says he has a long way to go yet. And the agent proceeds to ask him the same questions - how long have you been together, when’s the wedding, and then, do you have any family in the States? He doesn’t. He asked for his letter from his work. And then he said the visa has been approved and congratulated us.

So yes! Passport and visa will arrive at the Bank in Ocotal next Monday, and we’ll go Tuesday and pick it up!

In the meantime, I will be buying tickets and focused on the trip until a month and half later!

Going to the Canyon of Somoto with two Volunteer friends this weekend, and am going to build at least one barrel oven before Christmas, too!

There are only 4 weeks of school left, but only 3 weeks of my English classes! The week of Thanksgiving we have an All Volunteer Conference where every volunteer in Nicaragua will get together for a few days of conferences and cross sectoral presentations and merriment before Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will be having Thanksgiving dinner with an Embassy family. Then less than a month until Christmas.
