Our Two trips to Harajuku.
After a long train trip, about an hour, we finally made it to the very trendy Harajuku. My first trip to Harajuku was made with my friend, Larissa, from my cast. Larry couldn't go because he had to work and I was itching to get out before my show opening! We also wanted to check out this part of Tokyo on a Sunday, particularly because of all the freaks, errr, I mean people who get all dressed up to show off their outfits on this day. Apparently, they only do this on Sundays, and most will go to a little square right by the train station making it very easy for those passing by to gawk and stare! Why?.... Well, we're not really sure....but we definitely enjoyed taking pictures with some of them!!
On this trip, we had a lot of fun. After meeting up with my friend Annalyce from NYC (she was here in Tokyo for a month on a modeling assignment), we spent most of the day walking down Takeshita Street. This street is very popular in Harajuku for shopping, taking photo booth pictures, and eating crepes! (YUUMMMMMY) As you can see
by the pictures, we took advantage of all of these things while we were here. Finally, at the end of the day, Larissa and I decided to have some conveyor-belt sushi before heading home. This was my first conveyor-belt sushi experience, which I must say I thoroughly enjoyed! They also had some sort of 'Sunday special' going on, and so every single plate of food was only 99 yen (or about $0.99/plate)! Needless to say we ate A LOT!! About an hour or so later, I met up with Larry and had dinner again with him...hey, don't judge... I'm burning a lot of energy over here!!!!
My second trip was equally exciting though.... this trip was taken about a week or so later, now that Lar and I have the same days off every week. It wasn't on a Sunday, but it was fun nonetheless. On this trip we also walked down Takeshita Street, but then we ventured out even futher in search of a top Mexican restaurant here in Tokyo called Fonda de la Madruga. I had been absolutely craving Mexican food since I have been in Tokyo (I miss you, Dos Caminos!), and since Taco Bell does
not exist here, I knew we had to make it a point to find some. Well, after a few phone calls and a few attempts at getting directions from the non-English speaking people on the street, we finally found it!
This restaurant was interesting because, from the street, Fonda de la Madruga only consisted of a bright, neon yellow sign and a single wall with a door. So, we walked in and immediately started descending down a long staircase. After we felt like we had walked to the core of the earth, we finally saw the most charming Mexican restaurant we both had ever seen, complete with a Mariachi band and all. We (of course) had guacamole, as well as some pollo tacos, cactus salad, and a really scrumptious, spicy beef dish. Although a little on the pricey side, everything was absolutely delicious and definitely well worth the money and the trip! After dinner, the Mariachi band came over to our table and serenaded us with a romantic song entitled "Besame" (Means "kiss me" if I haven't completely forgot all I learned in Spanish class)... The night was beautiful and will be remembered for a very long time...We hope
you enjoyed reading about it just as much!!
Love,
Melanie & Larry

Hey Girlie, Glad to see you enjoying your stay in Japan. Can't wait to come out there. Definitely looking at Septemberish. It's taken me a while to settle in. Congrats on the engagement. So exciting. Wish you all the best.
