Haven’t written in a while. The week of medical crap in Managua and the excess of down time and internet searching and emailing and chatting… kind of wore me out. Decided I was thinking too much and it would be better just to get back here and move on with my life instead of all the “what ifs” that were running through my mind.

The upside of having to stay longer than I thought in Managua was that I was extremely glad to be back and to have Lenin hold me while I slowly broke down, as opposed to having been alone in a hotel room slowly breaking down.

I know, what a great post. I sound like a hot mess and a half.

In other news, the mosquitoes are vicious tonight, always an inch from my head, buzzing like mad. Yay mosquito net.

Speaking of blood sucking… I have been devouring Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga for the past few days. Like, reading nonstop. And since I removed the book jacket before starting them, and thus they are all huge black books, the average person thinks I am reading the Bible…. and the others who know that it is most definitely not the bible, think I’m still reading the same book as five days ago, when in fact today I just finished book 4. The only one who noticed was my neighbor, eight year old Karol, who has been kind of in awe at how many hundreds of pages I am reading each day.

Now only if someone had all the Harry Potters…

Love sharing books. Volunteer libraries, official or nonofficial, rock my world.

Honestly, not much more to report. Lenin told me, on my birthday, that he didn’t think he would come home with me for Christmas. Which, while I respect that decision, set me to tears shortly after. And then OBVIOUSLY he realized he was being a jerk on my BIRTHDAY and after I’d calmed down, he sang me a song. This particular song was sung to me in the morning by the 1st/2nd grade class, but that was cute and, well, hard to understand. But when Lenin sung it, on top of a huge mountain where we were checking on the beans they planted a few weeks ago, the waterworks started up again. It was just so beautiful. He couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, but I’m such a romantic sap at heart that when he croons out any wobbly song to me, I kind of laugh and then swoon.

At any rate, my birth-DAY sucked and, even though Lenin and I had each told Mamita that we were cooking dinner that night, the family got sidetracked and they were boiling freaking chicken and Abuelo just got back from the hospital… and it sucked.

However, the NEXT day, Sept 30th, we did my birthday right. Lenin and I made pancakes all afternoon. No milk to mix them with, so used heavy cream. Had fun trying to get the wood fire at an even burn so they cooked even. They were all amazed by the little Teflon frying pan I used and how I didn’t even NEED oil and they just slipped right out. Little pancakes, syrup, and bananas. They were a hit. Served some to family and friends as they were being made and saved some for the rest of the family until they got home from work at 6pm.

Then I made the pasta, and it rocked my world. Juanita basted and fried chicken, and that rocked. And fried potatoes. Which obviously rock.

All in all, I went a whole day without beans or tortillas and it was awesome.

So my 27th birthday went well, the 2nd time around.

And, yesterday, Lenin was asking me about Christmas, and now says that we will attempt the visa. So, perhaps Christmas is back on! I mean, I am coming home no matter what. It will just be a lot more fun if Lenin is there, too, and gets to meet the fam.

Okay, that’s all for tonight…

PS thank you all for the birthday wishes all over my email and facebook! Will continue to check the post office and post mail updates 😊

Every now and then your life down there reminds me a little of the summer that we moved down here and lived in our tent til it was too cold to stay out there! Yep, someday in the not-so-far-away-future, you'll look back and realize what a fun and important part you've played in in the lives of so many others. So proud of, and happy for, you, Molly!
