... just chillin'
It has been a lovely extended weekend for me and a couple of my co-workers, snorkeling, island hopping, skim boarding, drinking cocktails, eating lots of food and simply just enjoying the cold evening breeze by the shore. This was the best time to once again take the much needed break from work. I was actually here almost at the same time last year.

We were originally to arrive at Caticlan Airport which would have saved us so much time but the airport was temporary closed and all the flights were re-routed to Kalibo. It was due to an accident that happened a couple of months back when the tires of a plane burst upon landing. Although our airline provided the free transfer, we could have made better use of the 2 boring hours travel from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan (the main jump-off point to Boracay).

The first thing we had to do when we arrived was to look for a place to stay. We inquired at hotels after hotels before finally settling in for The Boracay Beach Resort located right at the beach front within Station 1. The accommodation comes with free breakfast and a lovely sun tanning and chill out spot

While Janet went to spend some time with her mom and relatives, Martin and I spent the first night at Juice bar drinking cocktails, talking, and listening to music while seated on sand bags, our feet on the fine sand.

A few other co-workers were also here the previous week and the weather has not been very nice to them, contrary to what we’ve been enjoying in the past days ~ luck was on our side! We rented a motorized Bangka (boat) to go Island hopping and snorkeling on the second day. One of the stops was the crowd less Puka beach which was all ours for about an hour. Snorkeling time was Tynnie, Janet & Martin Versus a lot of Dikya (jellyfish). The stinging jellyfishes were just too hard to ignore, and this we had to endure for the rest of the snorkeling. I also noticed that they cause slight skin bruising which thankfully just disappeared after getting off of the water. It was hard to see them so we really couldn’t avoid them. The fishes were fortunately very fascinating which made the attack of the mean Dikya(s) more tolerable.

Most of the corals were unfortunately dead already ~ I wonder how beautiful they could have looked perhaps 20 years ago.

Our Buffet dinner at Bugs Grill was made more enjoyable by a live acoustic performance, and Janet was finally able to join us on our second cocktail night. Saturday seem to be the Parrrty day in the Island.

We went ATV driving today. Aside from a minor crash on the Buggy, last year was more exciting because the road was still rough unlike the less thrilling, newly “improved” cement paved road now. It was an hour ATV ride up and down Mt. Luho and the full view of the whole island was still as sweet as I remember it. Although I feel sorry for the animals caged up there ~ they didn’t look so well.

Janet and I tried two hours of skim boarding too! And of course the (painful) massage afterwards! Previous experiences proves that massages don’t give that relaxing effect on me (either I am a bit too skinny or I am simply not used to it) but today I convinced myself that it might be different here and that a good massage would

be a great way to end the day. When the masseuse asked if a wanted it soft or hard, I firmly said, “SOFT please”, and gave her hints why. But it still turned out like she wanted to tear my shoulders off. I couldn’t imagine how the “hard” massage could have been; I might have heard my ribs or my spine cracking. I’m still in search for that certain massage that won’t hurt. BUT, it wasn’t that bad, from waist down, legs, and arms, the massage felt great. Surviving the massage was still a great way to end the day.

I was able to appreciate the island more this time. It is beautiful, no doubt about it, but the whole place is looking more and more and more commercialized to me and I’m not sure if the people are making enough efforts to protect the island and to preserve its natural beauty.

There were lots of peddlers, masseuses, hair braiders, accessory vendors, and boatmen roaming along the long stretch of the beach ~ you’ll either consider them bothersome or a way to be accessible to their goods and services. You can actually bargain and find cheaper offers if

… And in a couple of weeks, we’re off again to one of the most recommended beaches of Palawan! YEY!

Boracay
Hi! What time of the year was your trip to Boracay? I am planning a trip in Sept and not sure if the beach and the weather would be as nice as what you have in your photos. Thanks!

Bora
I've been to boracay a couple of times and it has always been on the month of September. Sept is supposedly a rainy month though; I guess I have just been lucky. Last year, we had the worst storms during the month of September too so I'm not quite positive that it is the best time to visit Boracay.
