Pretty nice view from the laundry room. This is the courtyard where children and grandparents hang out to get fresh air and play. :)
I am very thankful for the apartment I have. Excellent location, excellent condition...my roommate and I are very fortunate. After three weeks of living here, I think I'm pretty much settled in. At first, we had quite a few things that needed to be fixed and furniture to be delivered (thanks mom for translating and doing the waiting for us btw). And thankfully we have a maintenance, fix-it man. Well he's more a boy I suppose...he's 20 and he's quite small looking...He's probably sorry he gave us his number....oh...he must have come about half a dozen times to fix stuff for us in a span of 2 weeks. But he was nice and quite patient with us! We even got him to try to help us with our internet problems, which was totally not his responsability. eehehhee...Liu Lin is his name!

I heard some fireworks going off yesterday morning and the night before...I was told people set off fireworks to announce that they've moved in or something. We didn't get fireworks when we moved in...ehehe...anyways, people in our complex seem really nice. There are so many children and babies. We see and hear them playing in the courtyard all the

time. And by the way, babies and children here are all round and chubby..and they look bigger than their age. I guess it's all the buns and rice they eat here. So much carbs in the diet! We try to say hi to children that we see; they usually give us a huge smile and laugh! We have security guards at the gates to our complex...we usually just exchange a nod or say "ni hao". But they lock the gate rather early!! I went out last weekend and got home a little before midnight and I couldn't get in! I banged and shook the gate and shouted....no one came. I almost had a panic attack. I called a friend and he told me to follow the fence to the other side of the complex (which was a pretty long walk) and sure enough, there was another gate that I didn't even know existed! ehhee...I still have some exploration to do around my complex!
I'm liking it here; it's a pleasant and safe community to live in!

NOW to some details about my apartment. We have two bedrooms. 1 guestroom (so you can definitely come to visit!) and two bathrooms!

Do you notice the rose patterned wallpaper and lacy, rose patterned curtains? There are sliding doors leading to our balcony where we hang our clothes to dry! (no machine dryers here)
There are 3 big tv's in our apartment (my roommate and I both have a tv in our room though we've never used them...) and the landlord bought us a dvd player too! So this past week, on nights when my roommate and I were too exhausted to go out after work or to do anything,....we watched a couple movies. Other than that, we only receive 2 English channels...which is ok since I didn't come here to sit in front of the tv right?

Our kitchen--which we've been told is the largest in Shanghai..ahahaa---is cute! Cute little fridge. People in Asia have small fridges. People seem to buy groceries every day or else they just eat out. I've cooked a few times, but I'm not liking the gas stove. The flame can go up so high!! it's scary....!!! And for some reason, the counters are oddly low. I have to hunch over to do my dishes.

My apartment has a rather feminine, Victorian rose theme going on with lacy, rose patterned curtains and wallpaper. My bathroom has a matching rose printed shower curtain and white tiles with roses....and my bedroom has bedside table lamps with a rose printed

our coral-pink coloured comfy couch! and the air conditioner in the corner. (there's an AC unit in each room)
lamp shade & little pink jewels hanging down. so pretty!! heehee
well on the whole, my apartment is very modern. I think most if not all the furniture and kitchen cabinetry...down to the front entrance rugs are from IKEA. It looks like it came out of an IKEA catalogue.

My apartment complex is right across from where I work, so it's just perfect!! I can take my time in the morning to get ready and actually have breakfast. 😊 I've attached pictures of my apartment...so enjoy!

I love my bathroom! (My roommate has a similar bathroom outside her room...but her's has blue tiles and a shower instead of a bathtub.)

my pretty room! well, this shot is mainly of my bed...but you can see part of the window. Just to let you know there's a deep window ledge to sit on and put stuff on. My window looks out onto the main entrance/gate of the complex. On the other side of my room (that isn't in the picture) is my wall closet unit and across from my bed is my nice, big tv!
