Edit Blog Post
And again, it took me quite some time, to write this blog-entry, but finally, here it is! :-)
When I went to the bus-terminal at the first of June 2009 in Iguazu, guess whom I met? The guys from England, with which I´ve been in the national park “Iberá” – what a nice surprise! And even more surprising, they are going to Rio too and I got the last seat in the bus, right next to John – so we have something to chat on the 22 hours to Rio! ;-)
The border-crossing to Brazil was without any problems and we stopped in Brazil for eating, so I could stock up on local currency at the ATM (although the people I asked told me, that there is none, but I found one ;-). The bus-company (Cruzero del Norte) was really good, they served us some snacks and showed lot´s of films, until everyone was sleeping. I woke up, when we stopped in Sao Paulo and the men at the other side of the bus in my row was leaving. Almost immediately a guy from some rows in front was changing his seat to this place – somehow this was suspicious
to me, as we were in the last row and I had my luggage behind my seat and the guy before even had a seat a little bit more comfortable – why would he change? So I took my luggage from behind the seat and put it below my feet, covering everything nicely closed with my blanket. And guess what? Yes, immediately after I did this, they guy changed seat again and returned to his place ...
Finally we arrived in Rio on the 2nd of June, an hour late and in the terminal we had to wait another half an hour, because they really, really, really have been working very “relaxed”, checking the luggage of the buses ;-) Thanks god, my sister was waiting for me and in the meantime was chatting with some reporter and making jokes about my nice “little” stomach that I´ve been protecting and growing over the last month in Southamerica :-) We took a local bus to Peterson´s place (boyfriend of my sister) and it was quite a task, to enter with my big backbag through the turnstile at the entrance of the bus ;-) But the people have been very nice, for
example they offered me a seat for my backbag, although many of them had no seat ...
It was really very nice meet up with some familiar after already 8 month of travelling and so my sister and I had a lot to talk about and of course drink lots of the delicious “liquado” (milk-fruit-shakes). In the evening we met up with Peterson in Rio and had some beers with a friend of him, who´s preferred English words are “so so” ;-) Really funny and so we returned home late and I still haven´t contacted the Couchsurfer where I will stay overnight in Niteroi ... In the end, the husband of a sister of Peterson took me by motorbike (with my big backbag :-)) to the home of the Couchsurfer at midnight. But it wasn´t any problem for my Couchsurfer, who likes to go to bed late, so we had a nice chat.
The next day I slept till midday and then went with my sister to see some museums and visit a very interesting fortress in the bay of Rio and eat really good fish :-) In the fortress they had also a very nice shield, where
they had painted a snake, that was smoking some cigarette and the guide explained us, that this was from the company that assisted in the 2nd world war, because they said that it is more likely that a snake will smoke a cigarette than that they will be successful in Europe ... Within the next days we also went to the famous “Pan de Azucar”, where you really have a great view of the bay of Rio. In the house of the Couchsurfer, there´s now also another Couchsurfer staying – a girl from Canada, so that we always have a lot to talk. The other day his grandmother came over with her dog, a nice little “Dachshund”, that now stays a few days with us. We are already great friends and he likes sharing couch with me :-) I also went with my sister to repair my backbag, as there is a plastic-part in the hip-wrist that is broken and my sister brought me the repair-parts from Austria (was part of the guaranty). We had to search a while, because some of the shoemakers just don´t want to repair it (seems like they are afraid to damage it), but finally

View of the sugar-loaf we found a young guy that said “no problem” and indeed, he repaired it perfectly. We also went to a really impressive old cafe and of course the cafe they serve is delicious. The visit to the Christ-statue was very nice, although there have been quite some clouds, but it´s just impressive. We did meet a girl from Turkey, that had some problems with the ticket and helped her (as my sister speaks perfectly Portuguese :-)). One day we went to a beach called “San Francisco”, really beautiful and I got a new hair-cut and went with Peterson for some beers ;-)
On the 7th of June we met up in Rio with a friend of Sabine and her brother (Paul) and had a good time chatting about this and that. Paul and I are thinking to make a day-trip to Petropolis the next days – we´ll see. The next days I had to relax a little bit :-) and the family of Peterson wants that I´m staying at their home, but I´m fine at the Couchsurfers home and there´s also not too much space at their home and I don´t want to disturb.
Paul and I went

View of Rio on the 10th of June to Petropolis, which is a very nice town with lots of old architecture. So we spent a great day there. In the night I went with Sabine and Peterson to a Samba-Club – this was also a very interesting experience. We stayed quite a while (till 5:30 ;-) and so it wasn´t so easy get up the next day :-) Well and already it was time to make some copies of the last pages of the travel-guide of Chile, the missing part, that I will visit in the future, so I can send the heavy book with my sister home. I also had lots of other stuff, that Sabine carried home for me – thanks a lot, now my backbag has some kilos minus :-) Finally I left Rio on the 12th of June and returned by bus to Iguazu (Argentina), where still the famous waterfalls where waiting to be explored – but this is another story :-)
