First day in Tokyo!

Today is our first full day in Tokyo! I got to Narita yesterday at 1:36 and had to wait around at the airport for Jordan to come in. His flight was delayed so I wandered the airport for about 4 hours -- Narita is extremely boring. Once he got in we took the train into Tokyo and made it to Asakasa Station.

This is where we got lost. The map was extremely easy to follow but we were looking at a different bridge on the map than the one we had to cross, so this led to us wandering for about 20 minutes until we caved and went into a ramen shop to get out of the rain. The guy at the ramen shop was great. We bought a couple bowls of noodles (sakumen for me, ramen for Jordan) and he gave us some free extras.. sake, tuna sashimi, etc. After talking to him for a while and telling him about being lost, he decided to close his store for the night and walk us to the address. Thank God for him because we were a decent distance from the place.

Once we got to Asakasa Smile, our hostel, we settled into our room -- or closet, whichever you want to call it (6x8?) -- and went downstairs to the common area to get our free drink. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and talked to a Japanese guy from Britain for a while, then wandered around outside to another bar at the end of the street. This place was packed, probably 20+ people in a room a quarter the size of my living room at home. The bartenders were great though and we had a good time winding down from a long day of travel.

Anyway, we are about to go out today to see the Edo Tokyo Museum, Electric Town in Akihabara, and Sensou-ji. More to come later, and with pictures next time!
