Ihla Grande!Ihla Grande!Ihla Grande!

Jealous??
Helloooo from Ilha Grande!

We´re at a baking hot intenet cafe in 1 fan but I was desperate to come and update our website. The island is gorrrrgeous! It´s like a mythical island with brightly coloured houses, loads of forests and beautiful white sandy beaches.

On Wednesday we just arrived on the island, went for dinner and then to a bar to bond with our tour group. They´re pretty cool, a good mix of English, Canadian, Danish and Swiss! I had my first Caprinha- a very strong sugary, rum drink - not too bad once you get over the sweetness!

Yesterday we did a 2 hour hike/trail to the most popular beach on the island - Lopes Mendes. It was pretty tough going as there weren´t proper paths and a lot of hills and its been ages since I did any proper exercise (I blame Tash). It made it worse that we passed 3 other beaches on the way, and we were doubting whether it worth it. But it was! As soon as we hit the beach everyone just went WOW! It was white sand, a long beach and the biggest waves you could imagine, unless you´ve been to a surfing beach :P Eric had loadsa fun crashing into all the waves and I just did my best at jumping over them. I was doing pretty well until I lost my sunglasses (I hate the salt water in my eyes), but amazingly Eric found them under the water. Pretty fantastic for me as they´re prescription ones, if a little out of date.

In the evening we were suppose to see a Martial Arts/Dance thing, but it was raining so that was cancelled. Instead we piled into one of our rooms and watched Pirates of the Caribbean.

Most of the group decided to climb the mountain today. In total its a 7 hour hike, similar steepness to Machu Picchu, but without the altitude sickness. Originally we were going to do it too, but when she said that there wasn´t much to see on the way, just the island from the top, and we´d have to be up at 7, we chickened out. I was knackered from yesterday´s hike and wanted to stay out of the sun as I got a little sunburned at the beach (sorry dad but everyone did!) So we decided to take it easy as tomorrow we´re on the move again with a 5 hour journey back to Rio before a 14 hour night bus ride! Instead we thought we´d update you all, and have a little nap in the hammocks outside our rooms. That´s all so far, tomorrow we´re off to visit a waterfall before we leave.

Oh and no sand worms yet, but apparently there´s an optional visit to Ilha do Mel which does have them. Think we´ll avoid that island!

Bye for now! xxxx

Apologies but this dumb internet cafe won´t let us upload photos. Promise to get that sorted soon! xxx

Chickens!!
Oh my gosh, I can't believe you're complaining about being tired -- to climb a mountain for 7 hrs -- that's easier than Machu Piccu!!! How are you guys gonna to manage in Peru? Eleni, you have no excuse!! With all the Pilates and Circuits we did in that last week :-) You should be in tip top shape!!! That mountain should have been begging you for mercy ... Anyway, glad to hear you haven't stepped on any sandworms. I'll tell Kirsti :-) I'm watching a re-run of Big Fat Greek wedding and thinking happy thoughts of you and your xeno :-) Keep having fun, love birds! xoxo
