Can't wait to see you all again! The last 2 days of our European adventure have been as action-packed as the rest of the holiday. We spent a day doing some local Danish shopping and tasting Danish delights. We left Denmark after a teary farewell to the other Warren clan and headed for the ferry to Puttgarden. We arrived 1 hr early for our scheduled ferry trip and were ushered on to the ferry that happened to be boarding. Last car on. What luck! we would be half way to Franfurt by 3 pm and have a nice relaxing evening at a nice hotel.
2 kms after disembarking we hit heavy traffic. It takes us 1 hour to travel 10 kms thanks to an accident on the only bridge to the mainland. Ok no probs. We can make up time on the autobahn.
Travelling along nicely when all of a sudden traffic halts. We spend the next 4 hours crawling 170 kms - for 20km we were almost stopped (see photographic evidents). No food. No water. Full bladders. By 6.30 pm I have a migraine and Pete is swearing. (He says it made him feel better). We randomly choose a hotel on the GPS in Bad Fallingbostel. We snake
#@!!^%$ Germany!!
From Hero to Zero!! through lonely country roads that do not look promising and find said hotel boarded up. Migraine and swearing deteriorate!!!.
Fortunately the village is bigger than we thought and our next hotel is the charming Hotel Sansoucci at 65 euro for bed and brekky. Owners and guests are stunned to see 2 Australians in their hotel and listen to our woes with sympathy - we reframed from hugging and kissing them!! Unfortunately I spend half the night sick and Pete eats alone. By morning we are refreshed and hit the road for our final 400 kms to Franfurt.
We give ourselves 8 hrs to get to the airport in case of repeat traffic problems. But all goes well and we are waiting patiently for our midnight flight.
