Hi everyone!!!
Sorry we have been a bit lapse on the blog recently, we are adjusting to the Thai way of life! We caught our plane from Delhi no problems on Singapore Airlines to Singapore (stopped there for an hour) then onto to Bangkok. Just as we were about to land we saw a beautiful sunset from the plane above the clouds...lush!!! We thought it would be simple with the name of the hotel written on a piece of paper to show the taxi driver on arrival but nothing is ever that simple....he knew the area but that was it...we were cruising around the backstreets before we decided to go our own way, that was when we met Mr Luis Lee (this random traveller from Korea who we came across outside a hotel that was closed) and he saved the day! He lead us to somewhere he had stayed before, we were very grateful to finally arrive at a hotel after a long journey from India.
First impressions of Bangkok was......HOT HOT HOT!!! oh my god i know we have moaned on here about the cold too but its either one or the other! Its Thailands hot season at the
moment (good timing) To keep cool we would keep going into the air con shops and a particular English pub called Gullivers Travels, we just sat with a drink couldn't afford to stay!!! As we are on a tight budget we didn't consider air con in the room but 3 nights of sleeping (or not sleeping which was more the case) in a tiny room that smelled like a Thai Boxing ring we decided to eat less and pay 2 quid more for an air conditioned room....HEAVEN!!!! Of course we hit Khao San Road hard - for those who are unfamiliar with this road its the crazy Ibiza of Thailand so obviously me and Helen had to go with the drinking culture here!! Too many bacardi buckets in an Irish bar with nothing irish about it exept a few shamrocks and guiness on tap, with a live band singing english classics like livin on a prayer and ride sally ride!!! we danced and drank the night away!!! after 3 months in India of not much drinking we were lightweights, so cheap night!
After doing the brit thing we decided to hit some Thai culture. We went on a day
sightseeing and went to a Temple with a huge reclining Budda it was unbelievably big, amazing. We then got a boat across the river to another Temple (by this point we had stopped 6 times for a drink, the sweat was dripping of us!!!) This took us all day although it doesn't sound a lot.
After 3 heavenly air con nights we took the sweaty bus to Petchiburi (which is where we are now). This is half way to Hua Hin which is where my Mum and Phil are meeting us for a weeks holiday. We missed our stop but luckily the conductor noticed and then just pulled the bus over on a main road and dumped us out!!! the heat was blistering by now and we had to walk with our backpacks up the main road to try and find civilisation...i was cursing but Helen was calm (as per usual) Like mirage we saw the 'Pepsi' sign in the distance and headed for that with our mouths dry as one of our flip flops. We collapsed at the family run bar and gulped down 2 pepsi's each before trying to work out where we were....which proved difficult as
they did not speak a word of english other than 'pepsi'!!!! After some attempts to action and point where we wanted to go the lady flagged down a taxi moped, which then whisked Helen off into the distance leaving me to pray it will return for me...which it did of course. The journey on the Moped was quite something trying to balance a big backpack against the G force!!
Here in Petchiburi they have amazing night markets like car boot sales (Helen was in her element!) and they sell food left right and centre and it either comes on a stick or in a bag!!! and some of it you couldn't even hazard a guess as to what it is. It has a brilliant atmosphere, it goes all through the night till dawn and sells the most craziest of trinkets, you can even choose yourself a dog! (not to eat - well we hope not!)
We set out on another egg and pike sightseeing day despite the heat, we went and saw some cave temples which were out of this world. (check out the pics).
Off to Hua Hin in couple of days to meet the parentals,
We cannot wait to take full advantage of the Hua Hin Hilton Hotel facilities!!!!
Bye for now Love and still miss you all x x x x Laura and Helen
