Tuesday we had a late breakfast again - see a pattern? I went to watch a cocktail making demo and Ken went to buy a cap - he didn’t want to take one along - didn’t think he would need one. We walked around the ship Promenade Deck and top deck - but it was too windy to be out long. The ocean is much rougher today but don’t really feel it.
We had tea this afternoon and the group we sat with was enjoyable. But the service at tea was the first disappointment with Princess we have ever had. The servers for our table treated us in a “cattle car” manner; so unlike the usual Princess service. Definitely not Quality.
We wanted to see “Slumdog Millionaire” outdoors at the Movies Under the Stars, so we decided to grab an early supper at the buffet. We’ve never had supper at the buffet before but it turned out to be a very good decision. It was an Italian night and the food was quite good. But when I got up to get a piece of tiramisu for us to share, I looked out the window and there was a big whale breaching. We could see it for 10-15 minutes, spouting and flapping its tail. Quite a sight. It’s one thing to see whales in a bay in Alaska, where you are supposed to see them; it’s another to find one in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Back to Movies Under the Stars, the big screen is above one of the swimming pools and visible from 3 sun decks. They cover the deck chairs with canvas and give everyone a blankie and - for Ken’s sake - popcorn. It was chilly but OK with the blanket. There are big glass barriers around the deck, like a hockey rink, so the wind isn’t too bad. The movie “Slumdog Millionaire” was great - disturbing, amazing, exciting… I can see why it won the Oscar.
We ended the evening early with a drink, listening to live music. The wind is much stronger than we have had the past few days and the ocean seems rougher. It’s definitely shaking your booty tonight. Waves nearly coming up on our deck - and we are on deck 8.
Still haven’t figured out what Ken can do on the cruise ship when we grow up, but I’m leaning toward having him be in charge of popcorn. Theirs is not nearly as good as Colby Ridge.
