After a rather circuitous flight from Pittsburgh to Charlotte to Frankfurt to Hanover, then the train to Nienburg, it was a delight to see the bright, smiling face of Kerstin (she manages the office for AGR) as she drove us to Leese to get the motor home. Our “Bothan” was stored in a maintenance building leftover from WW II. We held our breath as Bob turned the key and the motor home roared to life. Yeah! Just a few organizational chores and we are on our way to the campground. It has been a long 36 hours, but successful, time to sleep.
4/09/-09 Thursday AM we got busy organizing, testing the systems, filling up the water tank and purchasing a few food items. The bus took us back to Hanover and we toured the town for several hours before meeting Kerstin for a German meal at the Brauhaus and of course, a sample of the Beer. AGR’s Kerstin is a “jewel”… organized, efficient and fun!
4/10/09 Passau was our destination, however, after a late start and road construction, we spent the night in Jena. This is a biker’s paradise…cycle paths everywhere, complete with a nice campground and of course,
a “Bier Garden”. We met a couple from the “States” biking with their baby. He is teaching Philosophy at the university, so we shared a beer and had a pleasant visit.
One challenge today, it is Good Friday… a holiday in Europe…oops, and all the food markets are closed. Europeans take their holidays seriously.
4 /11/09 This is food shopping day and it is a challenge…so many signs…we can’t read. Did we just buy oatmeal or musliec, did we get yogurt or cream? Time will tell? Well, more or less, our cupboards are stocked. This is part of the fun??
We are settled in a campground, and enjoying our own SALAD and CHICKEN, not wieners and French fries!! The joys of being “HOME”.
