My home away from home in the summer.
In the summer of 2002, I began working at a camp called Centauri Summer Arts Camp. This summer I will be returning for my 8th summer on staff. Why? This place is magical. There's a creative energy that I have found hard to match anywhere else. It's a safe space for children and adults to explore their artistic potential and bring artistic visions to life, all while learning about/meeting people from all over the world, and creating friendships that will last a lifetime. Magic is the one word I can use to describe this land of wonder.

This year marks the 15th year that Centauri has been running. To commemorate this occasion, the directors have decided to hold a unique fund-raising event on Sunday, May 24th in Toronto: a FIFTEEN HOUR ARTS MARATHON - one hour for every year of the camp.

A Team of 25 of us - Centauri staff, past and present - will endeavor to be continually engaged in creative projects for the full fifteen hours (9am until Midnight). We'll, write, dance, make theatre, compose music, paint, sculpt - whatever our specialty happens to be! All of us will be looking for sponsorship for our creative adventure - and the goal is to raise enough money through sponsorship to fund the building of a school in Bunkulung, Nepal. The village currently has no school for children beyond Grade 5. The land is available, the plans drawn up - all we need is to raise funds, so that the children in this remote area can receive an education.

If this sounds ambitious, then you're right - so we need your help! I am hoping you might consider sponsoring me in this crazy little venture! Any amount, big or small, is welcome. We've set up a special section of the camp website; CLICK HERE! - there, you can read more about the school we are trying to build. If you go to 'Sponsor a Team Member', you'll see a pretty little photo of me, and you can click through to any Centauri Team Member to donate to our cause. Alternately, you can email me directly at: jazzy_101@hotmail.com to pledge a donation. The charity that will actually be building our school is called 'Elephant Thoughts' and they will be issuing tax receipts for all amounts greater than $26.05 ($25 + paypal fee). You can read about them on our site as well.

On 24th May, you're also welcome to come along and support us all by being an audience member! Our Arts Marathon will take place at Lower Ossington Theatre, 100A Ossington Rd, close to the intersection of Queen & Ossington. Audiences will be invited in for a showing of works-in-progress at the following times: 11-30am to 1pm, 3.30-5pm, 7.30-9pm and 11 til midnight. We'll also be holding a Silent Auction between those times, with some fabulous works to bid for - including some highly creative gifts!

As a teacher, I value education and truly believe that everyone should be entitled to it. As a traveler, I've seen the limited resources that many children are faced with in their education. As an artist, I feel inspired to create outwards expressions of emotions that cannot be expressed any other way. I TRULY believe in this cause. I hope you will support me. My goal is $1,000. I understand not everyone can contribute large amounts of money. If $2 is what you can give, I will gladly accept it. Every dollar makes a difference.

Thank you all... I really hope you will consider supporting me in this endeavour, so we can all
