Group Meeting
Starting off the day and trying to figure out a plan for the next 15 hours! Below is a letter from the directors of Centauri Summer Arts Camp in regards to the arts marathon we held last Sunday in Toronto: _______________________________________________________
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS, DONORS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR MAKING OUR FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY ARTS MARATHON A REALITY!
On Sunday, May 24th, over 30 of us met at 8am at the Lower Ossington Theatre, Toronto. Between 9am and midnight, we were continually engaged in creative activity. Members of the Team created original music, choreography, poetry and art. Throughout the day, an entire physical theatre piece was rehearsed - in stages - and performed in its entirety at 11pm. Our Film stage created a short film in 11 hours. Staff members who were campers with us in the first year of Centauri resurrected music they wrote as children, and performed it together. Clown pieces, storytelling and stage combat were featured throughout the day.
Within the fifteen hours, we held FIVE HOURS of original performance in the beautiful studio theatre at Lower Ossington. 'Elephant Thoughts' also gave presentations about the community of Bungkalung, on the India/Nepal border, where the Centauri School will be built. Our audiences comprised parents, friends, camp staff, campers and
Julie Welcomes
Julie welcomes everyone to our first performance with her magic storytelling abilities. even staff/camper alumni from the past fifteen years.
In addition to the Arts Marathon, we held a Silent Auction, a Book Sale, Bake Sale and much more. We would like to thank not only the Arts Team, but also the volunteers who made this portion of the event possible. We would also like to thank Centauri staff who live too far away to join us, but who organised events of their own to raise money. Two 15,000 word marathons. A performance coffee shop. A sew-a-thon. An evening of dance workshops. The creation of a poetry anthology. And much more.
We would like to take this moment to thank all our sponsors, everyone who donated items for the silent auction, and everyone who turned out to support us on Sunday. We would also like to extend huge thanks to our sponsors. Parkdale Novelty, for the elephants. Nexus Printing for the programs. Cobbs, No Frills, Sherwood Market and the Bernknopf family for food sponsorship for the day. Enormous thanks go out to The Lower Ossington Theatre, for lowering their rental costs by more than 75%. Centauri Summer Camp will cover the remaining cost for the theatre rental, to ensure all
Duet
Daniel and I performing our lyrical duet entitled "Just" funds raised go directly to build the school, and will also be donating $3000 to fund an additional classroom in our school. We would like to thank The Robert Land Academy, for joining us as corporate sponsors in this event: your support is very much appreciated in this, as it has been throughout the past fifteen years. Finally, we would like to thank Elephant Thoughts, for making this school build possible, and for agreeing to involve our community in every step of the process.
Together, we have all proven that the Centauri spirit is alive and well after fifteen years. We have raised the funds together to build a school in a developing country. We have proven once again that when we come together to share a dream, we can achieve more than the sum of our individual parts. We demonstrated that we are not only teachers, but also artists. On Sunday Lisa, the President of Elephant Thoughts, said to me: "I've travelled the world, but I don't think I've ever felt as uplifted and inspired as I feel right now."
And now, the information you're all waiting for: how much did we raise?????
We have raised, so far, the sum of $20,800. There is one more event still to go, so our final total will exceed this. And Elephant Thoughts has agreed to double our total with funds they have also raised. This means that the total amount to build the school in Bungkalung exceeds $41,000.
Our relationship with our school in India will be a long term one. Once it is built, we will raise money for additional supplies as needed. We also hope to send staff to the school as volunteer English teachers. In the meantime, please check out our website for additional photographs of the Marathon: http://www.centauri.on.ca/marathon/photo.htm
Once again, please accept our huge thanks for being a part of this, and our congratulations for helping us to achieve something so worthwhile.
Julie, Craig & Cheryl

Thank you to all those who sponsored and supported me in this endeavor. It's been a really emotional time for me, as I have been doing a lot of reading, reflecting, and evaluating. I've come to realize how important support is in the successes of our lives. Seeing how much can be accomplished when a group comes Physical Theatre
Some of our physical theatre cast directed by Eleanor Prokop. together to fight for a common goal... I'm so lucky to have such an inspiring and motivating group of people in my life.
THANK YOU!
