Pretty Fredericksburg TEXAS!

Since we have moved to our new destination in Texas, I have been wondering if I have given this country a fair chance with traveling destinations. Sometimes I feel a little guilty by always wanting to leave the country instead of exploring it I decided this year I was going to do just that not to mention traveling in my own home land during a recession is good for my budget and good for the economy ( I try to repeat this to myself alot lately!) So I bought a awesome book with pretty pictures of the hill country area that surrounds San Antonio and began plotting my destinations.

First up to see is Fredericksburg TX. A little town that has German roots. I was skeptical about the info in the book comparing it to Europe because after seeing the real deal its hard to agree with cheesy comparisons by other people. However I have to agree with the book that this town actually gives you that feeling of being in Europe. The main street has a mix feeling of Tombstone and a German village. Its extremely family friendly! My kids really got a kick out of walking into the stores and actually being able to taste diffrent jellies, salsa's and candies. I enjoyed tasting the wine! Everywhere you look there are plenty of signs written in German and old buildings are used with the new. Sadly to my heart desires the bakeries actually close down once the goods are all gone just like in Germany, so get there early if you want to get your hands on something fresh. The cute little candy stores and ice cream parlors are scattered up and down the street.

I had read that the wineries in TX are starting to actually kick out a good quality of wine. I had read about a Peach wine and was determind to score a bottle for my collection ( not really a collection because I always end up induging in the wine I buy instead of saving it for years). "Das Peach Haus" had looked promising when we first passed it going into the town and I begged my hubby to stop there on the way out. (Oh Babe! was this place great! ) I loved everything about it! the cosy feel you get walking up to the store from the pretty garden, the perfumed wind passing by you from some type of purple hanging flowers, sign that says "Fresh peach cobbler daily" and the cats napping in baskets outside. Did I mention the pond in the back with a swing besides it and a view of peach trees?! Then when you go inside there are friendly people that actually want you to taste the samples of chocalate covered candies, chili and gererous tasting of wine! You can tell that you are in a store that is like someones home and really wants you to enjoy yourself. I mean after I tasted the wine and decided I'll buy the Peach one the girl said ' I'll hold it up front, feel free to go enjoy yourself. Its no problem." We took a good hour enjoying the land around the store and they didn't mind a bit when we returned to purchase our stuff. My kids loved it!! The have a 3 legged black kitten that was sweet. I LOVED this place and its on my hit list to return later on when its time to pick the peaches and strawberries!

Peach Wine
