KING KONG IN HONGKONG!

Yes its big its bad and its hairy - its Giles and we happened to arrive within half an hour of each other. An instant bear hug and off to the irish pub to commisurate his 25th! We chatted and gossiped about a load of stuff- he told me about Japan and i told him how Bangkok got its name in! It was really great to see him and we set off to the hostel he'd booked for us. Unfortunatley there had been a mistake and theyd overbooked which meant wed been upgraded to a twin ensuite room in the adjacent hotel for the same price- he always lands on his feet. We checked in and had a walk around the streets of Kaloon which is the section we're in! The first thing that hit me was road - a real road and i can see it - its not full of a thousand scooters? i crossed the streets without presuming i would be nearly hit by an oncoming family of four and their furniture- a nice experience. Flashing lights and huge tall buildings, the ones you stand under and look up until you feel sick. We marched up and down with a confidence that can only be got by travelling asia, then got lost! but hey not for long as scout master Giles had a map and compass, not that this helped but we made it back. the streets are filled with hundreds of electrical shops selling pretty much the same stuff. Every fourth person would come up asking if wed like any knock off watches - no change from bangkok. That night we just ate pizza and watched king kong, for me a perfect evening! The next day we arose and headed off to HK island and headed to the peak by cable car - we then walked back down taking in the views and plenty of pics. Tonight its new year and we bring in the year of the dog. On the stroke of midnight its tradition that you go around sniffing each others arse - ok after that i better go!
